So I'm looking for a Fender with a decent amount of clean headroom, but I'd also like to be able to make the amp break up slightly with a little extra volume and pick attack. I've done some research but still am unsure of what will work best. I will be using the amp in live situations and also at home.

From what I've read, the Twin seems nice, but is tough to break up.

The Deluxe Reverb has gotten very good reviews and sounds great in all the clips I've heard, but at only 22 watts I'm concerned about it's ability to stay clean at a decent volume level.

I also researched the Hot Rod series, but reliability seems to be an issue. I'm not sure if bringing these to a good tech would solve the problem completely. It would be nice if that were the case, since these amps can be had on Craigslist for $450 and under.

Any suggestions? I constantly scan Craigslist for deals, so it would be nice know what amps to keep an eye out for. Any input would be appreciated! Thanks!

I have a blues jr , a blues deluxe , a silverface super reverb and a 59 bassman ri.I would suggest looking at the bassman because it has a decent amount of headroom at 45 watts and it has one of the best breakup tones i have heard. The thing i like about it is how it responds to your picking attack.Soften it up and it cleans up, hit it hard and it breaks up.Great amp,its lighter than a super reverb and it is built like a tank. You can get them on ebay for around 600-800.The new ones are 1700.

Hmm. Never really thought about the Bassman. Did some quick research and it seems to get very good reviews. The only drawbacks seem to be the lack of an effects loop and no onboard reverb.

Trust me you will never miss the reverb, it has a natural reverb, cant really explain it.As far as the effect loop,i have a blues deluxe and never use it.Most people just run their stomp boxes thru the input.
