I am looking for a new amp in the $250-$300 price range. I have seriously been considering the Vox Vt30, but have been considering some other options lately. Vox just came out with a little tube amp thats pretty cool and I am also considering the Peavey Vyper 30. I am strictly a "living room" player. I play mostly rock/metal but do also mess with some blues. I am leaning towards an amp with modeling features but that little Vox tube amp sounds pretty cool. If anyone has any experience with any of these or any other suggestions I'd appreciate it! Thanks.

Try the champion 600, its a 5 watt tube amp.

Not sure if I'm too late to this party, but...

Vibro Champ XD. Tube amp, different voicings, only 5w so plenty loud when needed, but it can still be played quietly when needed. I too am a living room player with some diversity in my play style and the Vibro Champ XD has been the perfect solution for me. 16 voicings plus the DSP effects makes for an easy rig. Player -> guitar -> cord -> amp.

The video that sold me on it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aGMTrL0pGg

That's a Super Champ XD in the video, but the only differences are the Super has a separate clean channel, a 10" vs. 8" speaker, and 15w vs. 5w. The sounds are pretty much identical.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

Heard a lot of good things regarding the above mentioned amps. Bought a little Roland Cube 30X for my Son we're both very impressed with.

here's a link to Combo Amps in the $2-300 range at Mf. Interesting the Cube I mentioned now has a 'Call Us' in place of price on both the scratch and dent and non dorked listing. I paid $225 from them last year, and the last I'd looked they were $245.

In this price range you'll likely be more satisfied with a solid state modler, but I've heard some good things regarding a couple lower powered tube amps not mentioned as well, in Epiphones Valve Jr and the Blackhearts.

A bit late but for future consideration...

I think you will find, for the need you described, the VOX AD30VT or the AD30VT-XL will perform very well for you. Both of which are now discontinued but can be found NOS for quite a savings. I had messed around with an older AD15VT that has been doing its job for some years now and just picked up a VOX DA30VT-XL for $150 that is brand new and been sitting as a floor sample for some time. This one, the XL model, I particularly like because, for one thing, it has a 12" Speaker rather than the 10" one found in the non "XL" line. And light enough to move around easy at 30 pounds. I think these are real bargains right now on these and some of the best modeling choices around. They are nice in that they can be turned way down and produce good sound. I even spotted a older two 12" Speaker 100 watt version for $299, also an older discontinued model AD/VT. Good buys and great sounding amps.
