Hi guys, I'm new to the forums, but I absolutely love Fender and specially Fender Stratocasters (my main guitars).

I'm recently getting into Fender amps too. I'm looking for a Fender amp, I play pop-rock/blues, think of a mix between John Mayer + Joe Bonamassa + Lenny Kravtiz.

I already have a Deluxe Reverb clone which sounds really good, but it's only 20 watts so it's great for recordig but not that loud for Live gigs.

what can you recommend me between the modern fender amps?

BTW, I posted this in the vintage forums too, since I'm interested in both :)

Well I'm pretty sure John Mayer has used a Blues Jr. Nice little amp, I highly recommend it :P

Yeah, I know, but it's al EL84 amp and I don't like those cleans that much....I'm a 6L6 guy.

If it where for me I'd get a Vibro-King but it's just too expensive right now

My top 3 are Super Reverb, Vibrolux, and then Deluxe Reverb. I like the real deal better but the RIs are good. For the Bonamassa thing you will need a dirty amp for sure with a good loop. You can get killer Bonamassa tones with a Deluxe Reverb and a EL34/EL84 amp with a delay in the loop.

Bingo!!! Finally. I would go older Vibrolux Reverb not the Custom. Every one I've tried is excessively noisy. Forget the Blues Jr. and Blues Deluxe.

That just gave me a mental picture of a really ugly baby that I can't get out of my head....

Actually the Blues Deluxe would be worth a look. Its a good amp for what it is.Depending on how much it gets jostled around, alot of people have had good luck with it.As far as a true road warrior, you cant beat the vintage reissues or even better yet a vintage amp.Built like tanks and sound awesome.

The Blues Deluxe is getting some bad press here. It sounds yummy with a Strat, believe me, and is as reliable as anything else produced today, I'm sure.

I have a Blues Deluxe and I like it alot.By its design i can see where they might not be as sturdy, i mean if you have some careless person handling your equipment and it gets knocked around pretty good, but i know quite a few people who gig with it or the HR with no problems at all.

Yeah, Budglo, teh reliability of teh whole Hot Rod family is a fairly ongoing topic. I've had very few issues with my Devilles and Deluxes over the years.

I've had nothing but issues with my HRDlx and personally know dozens of other gigging musicians who have had problems with the whole Hot Rod series Deluxe, Deville etc.and dumped them. They are really surprised I've kept mine. Actually so am I. It will go when when I get the time to build an amp. It just sits in my music room now and I gig with my older amps.

The Hot Rod Series deserves the rep as does any piece of equipment that is as temperamental and cheaply made as these amps are. When someone devotes a whole website on how to repair and mod the HRDlx to get around different issues, I think it's time for Fender to listen and make a good sounding Hot Rod amp based on better construction techniques and components, not just price point. It's a great effort but lacks in execution. I don't like spending my hard earned cash on disposable equipment.

Some people have had their Hot Rod series amps for 10 years with no problems. That's great, but that is usually not the case and it's not normal. I have Fender amps that saw a shop once in 30 years for routine maintenance not 30 days like my HRDlx, then 60 days later, then 15 days after that. None of my other Fender amps have been dogs. I've had the same tech for 20 years so I know it's not him.

If they build it properly, we will come.

Supro, i know what you are saying, it s the same with cars.I used to like Dodges until one car that i got ( i bought brand new) ,it was one thing after another. Finally sold it and never bought another Dodge.I agree the HR series could be a much better built amp than it is.My guess is as long as it is their biggest seller they arent gonna do anything different.I also think that if it handled with care and isnt gigged heavily, it would suit alot of peoples needs with no problem.

The thing is for that kind of cash, especially after the increase, you can do better. I don't loose loyalty because of one product in a companies lineup. Things happen. My GDec took a dump too in 6 months and Fender replaced it with a store credit and I traded up to a GDec 30.

The Hot Rod thing has been an ongoing problem with the design since its inception. For that kind on money it should not have to be treated gently or gigged lightly. I toss my 74 Champ around and have for 30 years. It's my goto practice, recording and light gig amp when I run it with a small 2x10 cabinet. It's never seen a shop, not even once. I bought it when it was a year old for $150. My Twin is the same way. Some people think Fender is the end all and be all, but many young guys really have no idea what "the Fender sound' that they talk about really is. It's not SRV, Hendrix, or Mayer. It goes way beyond that. Listen to Buddy Holly. He was "the Fender sound" too. The Fender sound and end product has been cheapened for big profits. It's sad.

I agree , thats why i have bought used on my last 2 amps .I have a 59 Bassman reissue from the 90s and it gets plenty of abuse and I have had no problems.I also have a 75 Super Reverb from 75 and its built even better.I doubt too many people will be throwing it around, it weighs about 80 lbs.
