Line me up on a wall and stone me, I'm trying this.

Why oh WHY, do you ask? A couple of reasons. I got a Variax 600 a month ago. I love it with the cybertwin. I was down to getting the cyber foot controller and had to make a long, thought out decision. Do I get a used foot controller for the CT? Hmmm. Hit and miss with that. They've put many a player through hell with unreliable performance. Trust a used one? Hmmm. I considered a Behringer midi foot controller, but...need I say more? The variax plugged into the Pod XTL yields a pretty nifty thing- the guitar models can be programmed to change with each patch you use. THAT is a big one on stage. Also, I'm a weird bird when it comes to my live gear. I like redundancy for backup. If the Pod goes down, I still have all the function of the CT. Plus with the pod, I can use just that when the gigs and/or stage is too small for my amp- and this happens a good bit throughout the year, especially on boat cruises.

So all in all, I went with the pod. I plan on simply turning off all effects on the CT in one patch- a bassman. I love this amp in the CT. Minus effects, it's clean and beautiful. I may even do this with three other for the quick access switch- such as a tweed, etc. We'll see. I plan on using the Pod for effects only, not the amp and cab sims, although I'll try 'em just to see. This should be interesting. If the pod falls short, I'll just sell it. But talk about an oddball marrage! Good luck to me!

Now...on with the stoning!

I have a Cyber-Twin, but don't run any other FX thru it, but the main thing is that it's your setup. If it works for you, it works.

Well, the Pod XTL actually sounds awesome through a CT. I use it for effects only, striaght into the front- not the effects loop. It's great to have the amp patch in the CT, and the effects with the Pod. A big thing is that the pod has much better comps than the CT, so I can get the CT quiet as a mouse and have a nice loud signal chain with the pod. This pod has some excellent stomps and effects. Don't believe all the crap you read. And there's one more interesting benefit with the pod- it's also a midi controller. I haven't tried it, but I don't see why it wouldn't be able serve as the CT's midi controller too, if needed for program changes.

This little 'union' works out very well. I'm a Variax owner, so I had my reasons for going this way. But in fact, just because they both do the same things doesn't mean it's a bad idea, whether you own a Variax or not. The thing to do is use them both for their strengths, and you get a ton of flexibilty to boot.

Btw- the CT SMOKES the pod in the amp catagory. Not even close. I keep the amps and cab sims off in the pod. They could be useful when going into a PA though, when the CT stays home.
