I have a 4x10 Hot Rod Deville that I bought in Sept 06. For most of that time I used it at the lowest possible volume in my apartment, but over a few months ago started using it with my band, usually with the vol 5-7 with med gain. I've used it at practice 5-10 times. One day at practice, during the last song, It suddenly got real crackly, fuzzy and distorted, my first reaction was that it must be a ripped speaker. I turned the vol almost all the way down to see if it would clean up, but it didnt and then the power starts to fade and its silent. At first i thought it was the speaker(s) but ive had amps with torn speakers that still made sound (albeit raunchy tone) but I was getting nothing. I checked the fuse and it looked fine, and none of the tubes looked burned out. I bought a new set of 6L6 tubes, but that didnt affect the amp- though when the amp was on there was a plasticy burning smell (my first time with new tubes, maybe thats normal?). My next step i figure is new 12AX7 tubes and fuse. I dont have transportation, so bringing to a shop is a last resort option. Can anyone recommend something i should try to do or to look at/for?

I was able to run a cable from the 'pre amp out' on the deville into my crate practice amp and got sound, no problem. I also checked (visually looked in) the speakers and inside in the chassis, and everything appears to be fine. What am i missing?

Some of the biggest problems with the Hot Rod series are bad solder joints on the tube sockets, bad 5 watt cement resistors and power cap failure. My HRDlx had all three in just a couple of months and I bought it new.
Check the tubes first. It's the burning smell that I'd be concerned about. You can remove the back and do a visual. Look for burnt or charred components. This may help too

I looked inside the chassis and nothing appeared to be burnt, unsual or out of place.I was hoping maybe there was some easy, quick fix but I guess im just gonna have to bring it in to a tech.

Try cleaning the efx loop jacks and inputs with contact cleaner. Work a plug in and out several times and repeat. Use cleaner on the tube sockets the sme way. Allow fumes to dissipate before turning it on. Combustible spray! If that doesn't work try a jumper cable between efx loop send and return. Let us know results.
