Anybody have this one in their Blues Jr.?? If so, please advise.

I have a '99 Tolex and need to replace the special design speaker.

Thanks!

I suggest the M Model Scumback from Southbay Ampworks. It is a much better speaker with pre-rola Celestion tone!!!

I have the G12 M Heritage in mine and I like it, came with the Jensen C12N which was wasn't bad, (tweed version had the C12N, black tolex has the speaker that is a little bright), also threw a 5751 JAN in the 1st tube position which got rid of much of the branggggg, try the tube swap 1st maybe.....?

I'll check back if you have other questions on the G12M

It still has the original tubes in it so they will need to be changed as well.

The amp still sounds ok just a little flat.

Decided to go with the Eminence Legend GB128 speaker....$69 + free shipping at Musician's Friend.

I will replace my 10 year old tubes next.

Thanks for all the input!

Great! Eminence is a good value. If you want a lower gain sound, try a 5751 in the first tube position instead of 12ax7, costs about $19.95, www.tubedepot.com. It makes chords sound clearer, less brannnggg. Depends on what kind of tone you're going for.

Maxwell Street...Thanks..I was looking at the 5751 and the 12ay7 for the V1 postion. 12ax7 for V2, V3 and JJ EL84's for the power tubes. A little more clean headroom would be good.

The Sovtek EL84 isn't bad, mine was creamy sounding, I like the Mullard New Sensor EL 84 which is creamy blues rock suited, I found the JJ was harsher sounding but it depends on what you're trying to achieve. The Mullard New Sensor 12ax7 is nice too as is the Tung Sol New Sensor EL84 and 12ax7 (for those other preamp positions v2 etc.) I have been down this road and already tried all the possibilities.

So, how's the GB128? I've been thinking about replacing my stock Eminence with something less harsh.

Got it in today and so far I really like it!

It's late and I can't put a lot of volume behind it but it seems to have a nice bright silky tone to it (not too bright though).

I can defiantly tell a difference because that muffled flat sound is gone.

How are the highs, lows, and mids compared to the stock speaker?

They seem to be much more defined and clearer sounding than the stock speaker. It’s like a perfect blend, neither one overpowering the other.

Highs are bright and clear but not too bright.
Mids are strong but mellow.
Lows are fat and precise.

I'm sure it will sound even better once I replace the tubes.
