Hi Everyone
I just bought a used Supersonic combo (4 months old, mint condition), and I'm pretty pleased with it so far. One problem I have noticed is that the reverb adds a lot of hum. Any ideas what this may be due to and how I might get rid of it?
Also the reverb doesn't seem as big and spacious as those you might find on an old Fender Twin or Deluxe Reverb, for example. Is it a different kind of reverb unit?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hi there - The reverb should be just as big and spacious as an old Twin or Deluxe reverb, as it is driven by tube, just like them.

Try this in order:

1- "a lot of hum" from the reverb is normally a sign that the reverb tank cables are not plugged in the appropriate spot. Try swapping them first. If the problem gets worse, put them back and go to 2.

2- Unplug the cables that go into the reverb tank, spray them with tape head cleaner if you have some, and plug them back....it should normally solve the problem.

3- If that fails, the 12AT7 tube at position V9 is the reverb send stage, try swaping it with the other 12AT7 at position V6. This might solve the reverb problem, but introduce a new problem if that bad 12AT7 is now in V6 (phase inverter stage) - this would simply indicate you need a new 12AT7.

If none if the quick tries above fail, don`t mess more with it, take it to a tech.

Keep us posted on how you made out.

Hi Tweed Dog
Thanks for your help. Tried all three options but hum still present. Thanks for trying anyway.
