When I got back into guitar almost two years ago I bought a 65dsp. Three months ago I bought a Blues Jr. and play through that while using the 65 to play jam tracks through, you can't play tracks through a tube amp. I found the clean channel pretty good but of course it had no grit or sustain. I found most of the amp models too muddy, the British model less muddy with good sustain but kind of fizzy. I bought a Digitech Bad Monkey tube overdrive pedal which was good, and you can adjust both the treble and bass from the pedal to avoid the muddyness.

After I got the Blues Jr. I went back to the 65 to see how to best get the great mildly overdriven tone I was getting with the Blues Jr. I don't believe most of the classic rock players like the Youngs and Slash were using extreme overdrive. What I found was the middle notch of the Blackface model gave the closest approximation of the semi overdriven Blues Jr. It kept the tone of the guitar while adding some drive and sustain. The degree can of course be controlled by the gain. I find this approach just as good as the Bad Monkey. Also the treble and bass settings are very sensitive and adjusting them one number up or down can make a big difference in your tone. You can get a more open sound if you take the back off the cabinet.

Having played the tube amp for a while I don't like to play through the solid state now but I don't think you should start gassing for a tube amp right away. I think the 65dsp has a good clean tone, allows you to play jam tracks through it or use headphones and the effects let you see what pedals you might want someday. If you do keep the 65 for a while you might consider getting a used 12" 8 ohm speaker for it as the stock one is much tinnier than the stock speakers that come with Fender tube amps, $25 to $50 and easy to change. Good luck.
