I am currently using a Ltd Edition Hot Rod deluxe which is awesome. It has a ply cabinet and Vintage 30 speaker, one problem however, it is just too darn loud!

I cannot get it past 2 in the house. I have tried putting a volume pedal between my guitar and it which helps but I just feel all that power is wasted. So I am looking for another amp.

I plan to use it with pedals and like a nice clean channel. I like to try and play blues and some 70's rock but I don't need a massive dirty sound.

I am thinking about the Fender 57 Deluxe as it is simple, hand wired and only 12 watts. Hey if Neil Young likes it, then it must be good!!

The other amp I am considering is the Princeton 65 reissue.

Any thoughts from owners, former users or general observations?

The 57 Deluxe is a 5e3 Tweed. It is seriously dynamic. I love the 5e3. I get to borrow one from time to time to gig with. If you're handy, you can build a kit and save a ton of cash. It will still sound really close, sometimes better. I plan on building a Mission Amp 5e3 sometime this year.

It's very different from a Princeton. You would need to try them both. The 57 Deluxe is much more touch sensitive and dynamic. The harder you hit the strings, the more natural distortion you get, but it doesn't really get louder. It's really hard to explain. I always have a hard time giving my friends back to him.

Thanks for the input.

I did read about the natural distortion etc. I am curious to know how clean it can sound? Can you get the really clean kind of country telecaster twang from it?

The main problem I have is that there is no shops with a reasonable distance that I can try these so I may have to buy blind.

I really fancy the 57 as having a custom shop, hand wired amp is pretty desirable 8)

It all depends on how you pick and work the volume control. They have demos of it on Youtube.
