Brand new Blues Junior NOS w/ Jensen flubbing (farting) on low E notes. Is it the speaker, the tubes, the settings or the nature of the beast. Didn't expect this. Help. Most people rave about this amp.

Check the tubes first. The pins might not be making good contact with the sockets. Wiggle them around in their sockets - one at a time - and see if one of the tubes makes noise when you wiggle it. Try spraying some contact cleaner on the pins of the tubes (with the power off) and stick them back in the sockets and wiggle them a little to clean the pins and sockets. Handle the tubes with a clean cloth or super clean hands. If one of the tubes still makes a noise when you wiggle it, then you may need to bend the pins on the tube inward very slightly by rolling the pins between your thumb and forefinger. This will tighten up a loose tube.

If that doesn't work, get a couple of replacement tubes (you need them anyway) and try replacing the tubes one at a time to see if one or more might be bad. If you try replacing the tubes and that doesn't work, then you probably have a more serious problem and a return might be in order.

I'd be careful with the wiggling unless you want problems with the PCB. Just tap the tube with a pencil eraser. If it's a tube, It will either make noise or stop. If it's really farting, it's probably the speaker.

Do not bend the pins on the tubes!!! You don't need super clean hands either. Just handle them from the base. They are not like halogen bulbs. Your tube socket shouldn't be corroded on a brand new amp so don't spray contact cleaner on them or attempt to tighten the sockets unless you know how to discharge the capacitors.
Usually just removing and re-inserting the tube will shine up the contacts.
It's under warranty, take it back and get a Deluxe Reverb Reissue or Bassman RI. You'll be a lot better off, have better tone and a more reliable amp.

That sounds like a speaker issue to me. I wonder if it was damaged in transit. Do you have a power amp out and a speaker cab or another speaker to test?

The bass response of the low E string makes the speaker move in and out more. If a speaker is too tight in the cabinet, it can get prevented from making its full movement, which would result in distortion on the low notes. It may have been overtightened. You can tell by looking at the speaker frame, if the area around the mounting bolts holes look like they were bent inward by the overtightened mounting nut/bolt, this might be your issue. lossen it up and check again

My Texas Red Blues Junior did that right when I got it. I pulled out all the tubes one at a time and simply put them back in tighter. Also, when I got my amp the red cable to my reverb tank wasn't hooked up so I had to do that. I think it could be either of those two problems or it might be the intonation of your guitar???

My limited experience tells me that it is more likely to be a speaker problem than an amp problem.

Çould be a tight or misaligned voioce coil or ripped cone.

You CAN bend the pins on the tubes. Take it from a licensed professional strructural engineer who's designed over 200 buildings, transmission towers, dams, bridges and various other sundry structures.

Whenever your tube amp sounds bad, always check the tubes first, even if you're sure it's something else.

Take it from someone who has owned built and repaired amps for 40 years and is a semi retired professional musician, it's not a good idea to bend the pins on tubes. You can slightly straighten the pins on the preamp tubes, but you will destroy a 6l6 or 6v6 power tube. Even with preamp tube you run the risk of breaking the envelope. With all do respect to your profession, what do buildings and bridges have to do with power tubes?

UPDATE: Took above mentioned amp to an authorized Fender repair center. Amp checked out perfect. Amp tech told me low wattage amps don't handle humbuckers very well. they WILL flub or f**t out, something to do with the 'buckers. Single coils , no problem. The Blues Jr Tweed NOS is still a hot set up and good bang for the buck. I'm keeping it. - The big dual Shellman

I don't believe your amp tech. I have a NOS with humbuckers and it used to do the exact same thing until I tightened up the preamp tubes a little. Now it's fine. Go to the Eurotubes site and look at their tips about cleaning tube contacts and tightening up the contacts a little.

You won't get alot of help on this forum. It's mostly smart alecs here. Try the fender forum.

Get a new tech. If you can, try plugging it into another speaker cabinet. If it's new, give the speaker a chance to break in. I wouldn't mess with the tube sockets. First it's dangerous unless you know what your doing and second it's under warranty.

I have a 74 Fender Champ that I run Humbuckers in all the time and it sounds amazing and it's only 6 watts with an 8" speaker.

Not wanting to be argumentative, but I think your guitar tech is winding you up mate!

Never heard of such a tale of humbuckers or any other pickup making an amp and speaker fart!

As previously stated it sounds like a faulty voice coil or tear in the speaker cone.

My NOS doesn't do that.

My humbuckers; LP has 490R/498T's, same with Son's G-400. Country Classic has Filter'Trons, Son's 5120 has TV Jones Classics.

None of our single coils are an issue either; Country Club has Dyna'Sonics, Strat has CSN's and Ric has Hi-Gains.

Hey Maxwell Street I think you may be on to something there, Hoss. I ran that 335 thru my Deluxe Reverb and got similar distortion on that low E. etc. Strings too close to PU? What was it I read? If it ain't one thing it's two.
