I'm writing on behalf of my teenage daughter who is just starting out. We are trying to make sure she has a halfway decent set-up so she won't have to upgrade for awhile. We got her a Frontman FM65R amp at such a good deal that I couldn't pass it up, even though I'll have to buy a speaker for it.

Anyone have experience with this amp and putting in a Celestion or Eminence? I've been looking at the G12K-100. I'm not sure about which Eminence model. She likes harder rock, so I'd like to get something that will respond well to the gain, but still produce nice cleans. I feel like I'm over my head trying to figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Frontman 212R that is similar to FM65R yes those speaker are not good. I have found a couple of good online company that sells speakers. Make sure you replace that speaker with a higher wattage than the ones you currently use. The best amp speaker in my opinion are EV very costly, you can go to Eminence website. Try Mcm Electronics they sell speakers or Seismic Audio you find these companies online. They are very reasonable.

Good Luck,

Your amp is solid state. Keep it simple & replace the speaker with the one stated in the specs for this amp. I've located the exact replacement speaker made by Eminence for Fender. The speaker is P/N 007-1298-000 , 8 ohms 12.0" 75 watts. Plenty of tone for your solid state amp. The speaker lists for $46.99 @ www.angela.com. Fine job Dad lookin out for your daughter. The fun is just beginning.[/quote]

Wow! Thanks for the info. I looked all over and couldn't find one cheaper than $90. Oh, and btw, it's mom here, not dad, but that's okay.

You can also go to the Warehouse Guitar Speakers site:

http://warehousespeakers.com/products.php?cat=9

They sell clones of Celestion speakers. I bought a Veteran 30, a well regarded copy of the Vintage 30, $65, for my FM 65 dsp, then later put it in my Blues Jr. when I got it. If she does upgrade amps later she could put the better speaker in the new amp.

Exactly what I was thinking regarding the fact that she could use the better speaker in an upgraded amp later as well.

Well, we bought a speaker. After talking to a musician friend of mine, we purchased a Celestion Vintage 30. He said that it a very versatile speaker and that it shouldn't be a problem that it is 5 watts lower than the amp. She'll never have it turned way up for long periods of time. Shoot, we turned it up to 3 1/2 down in the basement, and my younger daughter said she could hear it outside! It's not even broken in yet, and it sounds amazing at all setting and volumes. Some really nice tones coming out of it. And now we can actually hear the reverb. I'm no expert, but IMO the cleans sound great and you can also get it extremely crunchy too. My daughter also thinks it's cool that all Slash has used is Vintage 30 speakers. LOL!

So, let the fun begin! I think I'll probably have buy some earplugs once she starts getting better.

Thanks all for your help.
