I have a 1989 Strat Plus with three gold lace sensors that I have been playing through a 1985 Peavey Bandit 65. The Peavey or the lace sensors seem to sound very sterile so I have sweetened things up by using a Boss CE-2 chorus in the effects loop. I am thinking of buying a Deluxe Reverb ReIssue but wonder if the high price makes it worth getting. Will the DRRI give me $1200 worth of improved tone. I like to play blues and gospel and I use a Crybaby Wah Classic and a TS-9 tubescreamer in front of the amp. Should I buy the DRRI or stay pat? I mainly play at home, I'm not in a band.

You can always go used for half that. But there is no comparison between a solid state Bandit and a DRRI. Try one out with your guitar if you can.

I love my DRRI. Tone is subjective however and I think you should try one out. You'll be floored at the difference.

I have a Peavey Bandit 65 from the '80s, and I got around the sterility of the amp by using a couple of OD pedals on the clean channel. Most people will tell you that Peavey amps are great because they sound so sterile and can therefore serve as an excellent platform on which to build with pedals. I love my Bandit, and it's a great amp.

As for upping the ante with a Fender tube rig, I can't really say anything except go try one out. See what you like. My Bandit has recently been replaced as my main gigging amp with a little 15 W Pro Junior. The PJ sounds better and, more importantly, is way lighter.

The DRRI is one of the best current fender models out. I would buy a used one and not a new one. Even the new ones need some tube tweeking if they are low in transconductance. I can get these amps to freaking sing sing sing by just putting the right tubes in the right place. Can't go wrong with a DRRI.

What makes you think a Deluxe Reverb RI is the amp for you?

I have a close friend who played with Stillwater (a Capricorn Records artist) and he loves his little Peavey solid state amp. He also uses an Ibanez Tube Screamer and a Strat. His tone is great!

Me. I use a Fender Princeton RI or a Line 6 Pod X3.

I have a DRRI and believe it has one of the best clean to right on the edge of overdrive tones out there. Even though it is rated at 22 watts it is loud enough to fill up a medium sized room, cut through the mix, and still retain a clean tone at moderate volumes. It starts to break up around 5 or 6 and is very loud at that level.

The only thing I don't like about the amp, it is very bright on the reverb/vibrato channel. Of course this is easily remedied on the amp or by rolling back your tone on the guitar.

I haven't used many pedals with this amp so I can't tell you how it would like your tube screamer. But this is one of those amps that will make you want to plug directly in and play.

The tone of the DRRI will be so much richer than a solid state amp. There is a reason that most guitar players prefer tubes over SS. I have owned both and the richness and the warmth is unbelievable. Much easier to build great tones from IMHO.
