For approximately $800, you can get an Egnater Rebel 20 head and a matching 1X12 cabinet (a second 1X12 cabinet is ~$250 more, staying within your budget).

The great thing about these little amps is the fact you have two sets of tubes (6L6 AND EL84) that you can blend at any combination (all 6L6=Fender tone, all EL84=a Vox-y Brit tone with vague touches of Marshall)...the best sound, IMHO, is straight up at 50/50.

It also has a variable wattage control function (1 to 20 watts--great for recording or sizing out the venue), volume and gain controls, a set of "Tight" and "Bright" switches, and basic Bass-Mid-Treble EQ.

I have to admit, this is the loudest 20 watt amp I've ever heard--it could easily keep up with my 4-to-5 piece band...

I've played on several of these little machines and have decided that THIS is my latest GAS symptom. I've already started rolling the dimes and quarters and plotting and planning how to get one of my own.

...it sounds like heaven, it's good-looking, and it's affordable!
