The '59 Bassman isn't working out for me... its used and has some gremlins I am not sure I want to start paying to sort out. The guy I got it from (traded some records for it) is willing to take it back and give me cash...

... So here is where am. I am trying to play surf. The Blues Jr I had was a beauty, but now that I played that tweed sex macine, I don't think I can go back. What Fender amp curently in production, hovering around $1000 give or take, would best fit my needs? I do have a Fender Reverb tank so as long as its tube, I dont need on board reverb.

Please send all anecdotes and advice!

I couldn't decide between a '65 Vintage Re-Issue Deluxe Reverb or a Blues Jr. NOS.

So...

I highly recommend each

65 Super Reverb.
If it's between the DRRI or Blues Jr. Go with the DRRI. It's built way better than the Blues Jr. Plus it has 2 real channels with EQ. It's just a more versatile amp.

Don't know if you looked here, but there is a flood of equipment advice and reviews (and, as you would expect, comprehensive on all of the Fender line):

As would I, but it's also about twice the $.

And oh how I'd love a Super Reverb. And a Twin Reverb. And...

Just remember, you get what you pay for. Up until the HRDlx, I always bought equipment for the long haul. A mistake like that will never happen again. Build quality as well as tone will be first on my list.
You can get an almost new used DRRI for less than the price of a new HRDlx. Tone is great, but reliability greater to a point.
