I am asking for any and all info on this tweed beauty. I think the date is october 1993, thats all the research I have managed. 4 Jensen 10 inchers of some sort. Anyone want to tell me more about this amp? And how do you clean tweed? Dust bunny city!

Vintage Reissue
'59 Bassman® LTD

2171000010

The ’50s Fender Bassman was the pro bassist’s answer to amplifying a great new invention: the Fender Precision Bass® guitar. This powerful 50-watt rig could easily compete with the common instrumentation of the day: horns, piano, four-piece drum kit with calfskin heads, and maybe even an electric guitar through a nice, new 10-watt amp! By the ’60s and ’70s, the original all-tube “Tweed” 4x10 Bassman was popular with rock, country and blues guitarists as a reliably great-sounding and easy-to-use guitar amp. Even some emerging British amp designers of the day copied its circuitry for use in their most celebrated designs.

In the 1990s, Fender released an affordable reissue of the now-collectible ’59 Bassman amplifier to massive acclaim. Many guitarists, tired of experimenting with preamps, equalizers, and effects racks, rediscovered the simple pleasure of plugging into a Fender tube amp. The Bassman’s wide stage coverage, touch-sensitive dynamics and full-frequency “swirl” make it the perfect vehicle for building a great tone with almost any guitar or effect. The reissue Bassman continues to be a staple of the Fender guitar amp line to this day.

The new ’59 Bassman LTD is enhanced with:
• Genuine lacquered Tweed covering.
• Finger-joined pine cabinet for woody, resonant tone.
• Original spec 5AR4 rectifier tube for natural compression when playing hard.
• Internal bias pot makes it easier to experiment with various output tubes.
• Two GT-6L6 Groove Tube™ output tubes.
• Three improved 12AX7 preamp tubes.
• Fitted cover.

I own the same amp, only an '07. the series has been the same since they were introduced in the early 90s. specs didn't even change.

as for cleaning, I wipe with a warm slightly damp cloth then dry with a dry cloth. pretty simple. DO NOT use any cleaners, unless it is a fender-approved cleaner.

Wow much thanks! You say yours is a 07? Is that the LTD? The only difference is the lacquered tweed? I would have figured there would be some difference! LOL. I got a great deal on it, as in, I traded 13 records for it. My collection will ache for a while, but... New Amp! :) Thanks again!

I'll be honest... I don't understand the "presence" dial or "bright" versus "normal"... any help there? My only previous amp was Blues Jr.

well, the bright channel was designed for a punchier sound, while the normal is just that, a plain jane channel. also, the two inputs for each channel make a difference. the #1 fo each is what a bass or any other instrument would plag into, while the #2 is for guitars, or so they say. I have tested this and found only a slight variation in tone. nothing too noticeable. the presence I just keep at 10. never really messed with it. I would guess that is is somewhat of a precursor to reverb.

yes, mine is the LTD. the lacquered tweed and tweed have a lot in common, just mine is tinted a deeper vintage looking amber tint. that is one h3ll of a deal indeed! congrats, and let me know if you have any questions or need help with something! :)

I appreciate the mentoring! I am pretty new to all this gear. Any advice on how you set yours up? Any nuggests you have stumbled across? It seems to be much less forgiving than my Blues Jr.

As I got it all set up and pluged in, I started to notice little things with it. The channel 2 for normal seems sapped a little... like it gets less power? Maybe I'm imagining things.

But there is something I noticed with the tubes. After my first extended play (45 min) there was a buzz... I tried to boost the bass and see if it was a speaker rattle (like my first 3 cars had), but it didn't seem to sound the same. As I grew a little upset, I started to wonder if it didnt sound like the tube is breaking up. I'm playing at 3 volume. I can hear clean tone but there seems to be this OTHER sound. Sigh.

Beyond that I love it so far. Smells like hot dirt once it fires up, tweed looks like it sat untouhed for years, and there is that signal/speaker/power noise but I love it. I wonder if it would be worth paying an amp guy to look at?

PS - after researching online, I wonder if I am not just breaking up the signal. It doesnt sound like "good" overdrive but a lot of reviews mention it breaks up even at 4... so maybe at 2 - 3 it is starting to. Or are new tubes in order

sorry to throw so much out guys, butI appreciate all help

I did find one tasty bit of info in the archived Users Manual for the 59 reissue... which had Ifound earlier may have saved me asking such a NEWB question...lol. Anyway

channel 2 (on both Bright and Normal) has 6 db less gain than channel 1. who knew?
