Hey everyone , I just bought a Fender MH Half stack and was wondering if anyone would share comments/experiences on this amp .
Also i 'm having a hard time running my boss distortion pedals through the effects loop , I plug my input to send and my output to return and it sounds horrible ,any suggestions ?

I don't know anything about the Metalhead amp, but I can tell you that distortion and overdrive pedals typically sound awful in the effects loop. The whole point of a dirt box is to boost the signal that the preamp, well, amplifies. If you put them in the effects loop, you miss the whole preamp bit.

Your sending the preamp into the distortion pedal. As previously stated, distortion should come before the amp, and not in the loop. Reverb, Chorus, and Delay sound good in the loop

Oh ,cool thanks !!!! Its my first half stack so the effects loop is new to me , ok so I have a Boss dd7 and a boss chorus, so those I can plug in the effects loop but can I run my distortion pedals through the main input at the same time ?
Plus I bought it used and there's a bit of dirt on one of the speakers ,is there some kind of cleaner that i can use that would not damage the speaker ?

Thanks ! :)

I don't want this to appear as if it's written in stone, but a good general rig setup should look something like this:

Guitar --> Wah pedal --> Compressor --> Overdrive/Distortion Pedals --> Flangers, Phasers --> Amplifier ---[effects loop]---> chorus --> delay --> other modulation effects (tremolo etc) ------> Amplifier.

Keep in mind that there are many ways to use an effects loop. Lots of players don't even bother, while others run everything but the kitchen sink through it. The point is that you should experiment with what you like. See what sounds good to you, and then roll with it. Additionally, the order that I gave above is for example only. It's by no means guitar law -- lots of people like compressors after the OD, for example....

Yes. What pedals "in front" of the amp are really doing is simply modifying the tone coming from your guitar: it's still a guitar tone when it hits the preamp section of the amp. The preamp section amplifies it and gives it much of its tonal auditory colour; then it runs through the effects loop, and into the power section which makes it ear-splittingly loud.

I chose not to go with the MH cab, i dont like celestions. i bought 4 Eminence 16ohm Swamp Thangs and wired the cab to 4ohms. in my opinion, the most important thing to ad to the Metalhead is an EQ pedal in the FX loop. After trying all kinds of distortion pedals with the head, i realized that i didnt need anymore distortion than the head already put out, i just wanted a little more flexability when shaping my tone. a good one to try out if ur on a budget is the Danelectro Fish n' Chips. $30 isn't too much to ask for one of these things at all, and i have never even stepped on it(its always on) so the plastic housing is fine. thats the only pedal i use now and i couldn't be happier with my sound.

Just for fun, im going to run out of the FX loop, into the EQ pedal, then into my Fender PA 100 and crank it!! i want to see how the MH preamp will sound through what is basically a 100w Twin power amp. i cant wait to give this a shot, too bad i have to wait until i move back to WA to get the PA head back... lame...
