Congrats!

Another reason to believe that Fender makes great durable amps, right Shane.

Good to hear some positive experiences here! We should have more, it's so easy though to go on about all the problems. I know I'm a bad example.

Me too. If you want to hear more positive things, they should build a sturdier product. The sad thing is you hear way more complaints than complements. You should see some posts on other forums. These are really mild here. Mine stays in the house now because I feel it's too fragile to take on the road. It's failed me three times on stage in the first four months I owned it. Can't get paid like that and it aggravates the other members of my band.
If you don't lug it around to gigs all the time and treat it like a raw egg, it should last a while. :D

I don't know if yours is US made or MIM. Mine is new MIM and it sounds great! I changed the power tubes from white GT's to EH6L6 late break up, made in Russia. The bias was a little hot with the stock tubes but when I put the new ones in it was dead on with no adjustment. Sounds better to me too! I use a 12au7 in V1, Penta Labs 9th Gen 12ax7 V2 and Sovtek 12ax7 LPS V3 . Great bitey tone for country.

Are there any major differences between the MIA and MIM Hot Rod series amps? I have a MIA Pro Junior, and from playing MIM versions I haven't been able to discern any major differences. I suppose the circuit boards and wiring -- of which I know little and understand less -- could vary, but again I'm not sure.

I don't know of any major differences. I had a chance to get the MIA off of Craigslist for $425 after paying $700 new for MIM. I almost bought it anyway because it was like new. With money tight I decided not to.

What are you guy's biasing your HRDLX amps at and do you know if that number changes when you plug another speaker on the amp?

60mv at the test point. All controls 50% reverb off and no signal. Bright switch out drive Yellow. 60mv at TP30 or 30ma per tube with Bias test sockets.

Mine came from the factory at 66, I like the sound so I never changed it. When I went with the Ruby 6L6 GC STR It dropped down to 65 and I put it back at 66. Some peaple say that's to hot , Ive aways had a small fan blowing in the back of it. I have about two years on the tubes. I might drop it down to 60 see how I like it.

Yes mine was 66 too and I like the sound better at 60mv. Each set of tubes can make it vary. I didn't have to change the bias. With the new set it was dead on at 60mv.

The mv numbers are meaningless without knowing the plate voltage. Not all plate voltages are exactly the same from amp to amp due to component tolerances. The tubes should be running at around 70% dissipation. You can seriously shorten the life of the tubes biasing the way you do. You can't compare bias voltages like you can guitar strings or speakers. Be careful. A lot of people just go the Justin's site and do what he says. It's not the proper way to bias an amp, there are formulas involved. Also some tubes are more robust than others and can handle more voltage. In that case, you are probably biasing too cold and not getting the best out of your tubes tone wise, even though biasing cold will make your tubes last longer but your tone will seriously suffer.

I know a well respected amp tech that says using the bias test point is just as good as using the socket bias method. Are you a certified amp tech?

I would get a new tech. I've been servicing my amps as well as others since 1975. The method I described is the way most good service techs do it. Not just pulling numbers out of thin air. Bob at Eurotubes is biasing with a Bias Rite with JJ's at 90mv. http://www.eurotubes.com/euro-Fender-HRDV.htm The link is a video on how to bias a HRD amp. I'm running around 82mv with no problems. This can also vary with the tube manufacturer too. I just happen to like JJ's and run them in most of my amps unless I'm using NOS tubes. Pessonally I think you guys are running pretty cold. Remember, the colder you bias, the longer your tubes will last, but your tone will suffer. Just try it and you'll see what I mean. A certified tech means nothing. I've had some pretty lousy certified techs that did more damage than good to my rigs. That's when I learned to do it myself.

If you're running Groove Tubes, don't go past 70mv. GT's can't handle 80 or 90mv. Experimentation is the key. If I kept the GT's and biased at 60-62mv as suggested, I wouldn't have the tone I have on my HRDlx today.
