I'm very picky about my stuff. If I paid that much money for an amp, I would be freaking out about that ding. I mean totally bananas. I would call like crazy. You may need to get a return authorization number or even fill out some type of form before sending it back. That is one awesome amp though.

That is not really a bad ding and it does not appear like the finish is nicked off. Why go thru the hassle of shipping it back for that? Who knows what else you will receive in return.. You could end up with an amp that has other internal problems. If you have been using it and everything is fine you might be better off keeping it. Cheer up things could be worse. So I cheered up and things got worse! :D :D

It's just part of their highly desirable relic-ing process, thrown in at no extra charge...Most people pay extra for that. I mean, have you ever seen a ' 59 Bassman that didnt have a dent in it? Besides, now you won't feel quite so bad the first time you smack a big old dent in it.

Now stop being ungrateful, and start enjoying that bad boy...

For that kind of coin, it should be in pristine condition both electronically and cosmetically period. The owner should be the only one putting dings in it.

You all make very good points, and it sounds so nice! Just disappointed i didn't get a reply from fender, some other schmuck is going to go through the same thing unless fender starts protecting their goods in a suitable manner, a frigging guitar come with a case!

God bless boys and girls :D

Some guitars come in a gig bag packed in a box with little protection. I had a Gibson LP that arrived with one little ding. It was not in a noticeable area and played great. I kept it and it is still one great playin guitar today.
Something had bumped thru the box in shipment. Single layer cardboard. I did some touch up and unless you know where to look it is not noticeable. That was an $800 guitar. Still sucks tho. The next LP came in a Case and no problems. It is a Robot LP $2000.

Its been sorted out, they cant replace the amp for about 3 or 4 months, it aint a bad ding, so they're sending me a couple of microphone leads as compensation.Still pretty pissed i didnt get anything back from fender on why they use sub standard packaging, apparently we blame the greenies.

Cheers for the replies guy

Bluesdog, I sympathize with your predicament completely. Most amps are serious investments and, while I agree that the ding is not particularly terrible, I'm of the opinion that only the owner should be dinging their gear. If I whack one of my guitars into the coffee table, I'm typically not that upset, but if someone else did it I would be livid. As for the sub-standard packaging, I must agree. Wooden crates are bulky and expensive, but necessary when something as fragile as a 50-odd pound tube amp is involved. If I bought a guitar I'd expect it to be shipped in a hard case; the same goes for an amp. Good to hear you received at least some compensation though, and good for you for making your displeasure known.

I ordered a PA head some year's back, and when the guy dropped it at the house he really dropped it . Lot's of damage . I had to send it back. It took a 4 week's to get the new one. I really try to get my gear from the local stores now. You do pay more but you know the person you are dealing with and you get to try the stuff out before you pay for it.

Personally, I think this is the best way to buy an item of higher value. Not online. I purchased mine from a GC store. I have ordered other items but some have had a few problems. It is best to see it before you buy it.

Sorry but I'm not willing to pay Australian retail price for any gear, its too damned expensive, all my effects i buy off ebay from the US, I save about 30-40% even with postage and a crappy exchange rate, i just have to get a power supply sorted out.

I just received my Fender Bassman LTD and had the exact same experience. Fender's packing material is an absolute "JOKE" and the amp showed up with 1 small ding, 1 small tear, and a stain on the tweed. It's actually amazing that nothing else was wrong as they don't even protect the front or rear of the cabinet with any additional packaging. Fender's raising prices and cutting quality accross the board from workmanship to packaging. Fender should be ashamed of themselves and there is just no excuse for cutting corners on the packaging of an amplifier. In the end it will no doubt cost them with costly returns and pist off customers.

Now that was priceless.

I don't mind buying an amp from a music store that's in a cardboard box. But I agree. I bought a new Cyber Twin SE last year online. It came in a cardboard box. A $1300 amp (this year it's $1700) comes in the same type of packaging if I bought a $13 book from a different online store.

Maybe they ought to sell amps in airline cases like they do guitars. I would be willing to pay $100-200 more for an amp if it came like this. (I wrote this before I saw Vulkan's suggestion as well)

Fender....are you listening?
