Hey guys, purchased myself a brand new '59 Bassman Reissue LTD a couple of weeks ago.It arrived via courier (I'm from Australia) in a cardboard box, along with a nice dent in the pine chassis, yeah i know stuff happens, but i hadn't even played the thing and with a list price of $3100 AUS (Approx) i'm fairly disappointed.I did get 30% off though which i'm pretty happy with.
I had a fender deville 410 a couple of years ago that came in a plywood crate (the way it should be). I didnt purchase a dvd player, have cost cutting measures gone so far as to not even pretect a product till it gets to the end user? I emailed the people i purchased it off and to their credit they offered me some guitar strings, but also mentioned that it wasnt their fault as it came direct via the fender warehouse. I emailed Fender Australia on sunday, its now friday evening and still no reply, to me thats incredibly unprofessional. The ding in the chassis is not huge and i can live with it, how about some free stuff, a Custom Shop Eric Clapton Signature would be fine...

My latest amp arrived in a cardboard box as well.
It was in a plastic bag inside a cardboard box with some very thin foam and cardboard strips around it.

Fortunately it was in good condition, times definitely have changed.

Congratulations on the ding in my new amp or experiencing sub standard customer service, I'm confused! In no way am i happy about this...
I hope my future posts are cheerier, and i hope fender can see it as the proper thing to do to put their new amps in a $15 plywood crate instead of a cardboard box. Besides that the amp is peachy. 8)

Dream on, not in this age. No one ships in wood crates anymore. The cost of shipping weightwise is not cost effective for companies to do so. They rely on insured parcels if you pay extra.

I was expressing sorrow for you ding. I was complementing you on your choice of amp and I was welcoming you to the forum. What did you think? I was glad you had a problem with shipping? :?

Sorry man didnt mean it to sound like that, apologies for taking out my disappointment on you.For an item that costs thousands of dollars i dont think i'm dreaming on, like i said i didnt buy a dvd player i just expect that every effort is used to get my purchase to my door in "new" condition, we pay the freight dont we?

Like i said its not a big dent, certainly doesnt change the sonic quality of the amp, here's a pic:

I'm just jacked off that i emailed fender "support" almost a week ago and haven't had a reply.I'd like an explanation why something this valuable isn't packaged properly, if not in a plywood crate then enough foam padding to stop this happening to future fender customers. If i buy a $50 dvd player from the local "bargain" shop it has enough foma in the box so i could throw it off my roof and the thing wouldnt get a dent in it, it might not work, but no dent, apologies to fellow forum users if i have taken out my frustrations on you guys thats not my intention.

Bluesdog,
That is just totally unacceptable. Stay on them. Emailing customer support may not be the way to go. I'd try calling if you can. I know it must be a pain for you, but I would send it back or have them replace the cabinet at the very least.
Good Luck

Doggie, that really sucks and I would be pissed too! If you don't get any satisfaction from the shipper, I may have a solution. You could mask off around the dent with waterproof tape and then steam just the dented area and it might swell back to its original shape. I can't tell if the tweed is lacquered or not but if it is it will just repell the steam and not penetrate. If it isn't then the tweed will soak up the moisture and hold it in place for a while ans while it dries the wood will swell. Good luck either way and you have one hell of an amp there!

Thanks for the reply Johnny1823, I'm glad someone feels my pain.Appreciate the advice on fixing it, I have a mate who's an upholsterer, he might be able to help, or i could just leave it and call it road damage.I'll post some photos tomorrow of the packing materials, its truly pathetic.

Bluesdog88

PS:Maybe i should have sprung for an ATA roadcase before they sent it!

This is painful, but this is what protects a vintage reissue amplifier with a RRP of $3,499.00 AUD

So should i be hassling fender customer support or the music shop i bought it off? Which incidentally is 5 hours drive as i purchased it online, i emailed them photos and they said:

Quote:
Hi Brett unfortunatley the way fender pack there goods are beyond our control. what i will do personally is send you 4 complementry packets of strings to make up for this kind regards
that was on the 7th of April, no strings as yet

These companys' are trying to cut costs everywhere and the consumer is stuck holding the bag especially when it should have been a rugged box instead. The cardboard Fender uses is also light construction and not thick like it should be. Not every company is like this but most. I found an exception when a 112 cabinet was shipped to me from Avatar Speakers. The box was same quality as Fenders but inside they lined it on all 6 sides with about 5 layers of scrap card board. It would have taken quite a jolt to puncture all those layers. I was surprised and very happy with their packing.

I'm very picky about my stuff. If I paid that much money for an amp, I would be freaking out about that ding. I mean totally bananas. I would call like crazy. You may need to get a return authorization number or even fill out some type of form before sending it back. That is one awesome amp though.
