Do you have any hints or suggestions when looking for a used amp? I'd assume that plugging in and playing where possible would be important. But what else should a buyer look for?

I've been looking for a used Deluxe Reverb Re-Issue so any particulars for that amp would be appreciated.

If I have never seen the amp before I would look online for pics and specs so I know what it is supposed to look like. What type knobs, switches, tubes, etc...

Knowing what you are looking at is so helpful.Definately educate yourself as much as you can. I went looking for amps a month ago.I came across a used Bassman reissue that they said was a "relic". I noticed right away that there was no lacquered tweed so it couldnt be a relic. It turned out to be an older reissue and instead of paying 650 for it , i paid 350.

Make sure that you spend a goodly portion of time with the amplifier and play it on every setting and at every volume you will ever use -- in fact, test the amp every way it can be tested. You don't want to get the thing home and realize that the sound above half volume is unusable. Also, it's definitely worth it to take someone who knows amps with you if you're not experienced. It can never hurt to have a second opinion, and it is certainly in your interest to have an objective counterpoint to raging G.A.S.

Look for an original Tweed of some kind that can be restored easily if needed. One with no mods done on it and you need to know as much as possible about original specs,IMHO! :) Research!!
