Groove Tubes are about a year old on my 96 HRD 212 . They rattle like a sumbitch, even though sound coming out of speakers is fine. Is there a way to dampen the rattling or is it time for new tubes? Can you suggest better replacement tubes?

Thanks!

I have a 12au7 in V1, Penta Labs 9th Gen in V2 and Sovtek 12ax7 LPS long plate spiral low noise tube in V3. I suggest researching http://www.thetubestore.com for reviews of power tubes. Your style music will determine which to get. I would stay away from EH or Groove Tube.

Are the tubes fully seated in their sockets?
And is the foam damper on the v1/v2 tubes or did it come off ?

Check the above then do the pencil eraser tap test to see if any have gone microphonic..

If you do want to do a full retube one of the eurotube kits is a good option.
Changing the power tubes does need a re-bias to work properly

Just use a meter and check at test point. +60mv at TP30 all knobs at 50% reverb off. Bright switch out and Drive to yellow. Or have your tech do it.

I have tube dampers from Herbies Audio. They work pretty well. You can also get high temp "O" ring tube dampers on Ebay, they work pretty well too. Eurotubes has a set of JJ's tubes designed to prevent tube rattle. It's the way the amp is designed. My HRDlx is the same way. Combo amps get tube rattle, head and cab amps don't.
Go to http://www.eurotubes.com for more info. JJ's are great tubes. I've been running them in my amps for years.
