So I am finally upgrading from my solid state microstack to a Blackheart BH5H half stack - it just got delivered. I've never played tubes outside of GC so I'm pretty psheched. My question is how to warm it up - how long to have it inside after a long time on the cold truck before I turn it on, how long after I turn it on should I wait to play, etc. Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks

I would probably wait about an hour, depending on how cold it is, before I turned it on. Then give it a minute to warm up and go for it.

Thanks - I warmed it up to room temp for about an hour, plugged it in, warmed it up for another 20 minutes, and it sounds incredible. I didn't know what I was missing - bought the Marshall microstack because I thought it looked cool and it was a Marshall stack, not really understanding the SS/Tube thing at the time, and it is night and day different. The marshall head has a headphone jack, so I'll still use it when the kids are asleep, but I doubt if I'll use it out loud again unless I have a buddy over and we're both playing.

Thanks again

sounds great - I just ordered some new tubes, an electro harmonix 12AT7 and a gold lion EL84, so it should sound even better soon - everything I read said replace the chinese tubes, but it sounds better than the SS marshall already

sounded great out of the box, but I just replaced the tubes with a Gold Lion EL84 and an Electroharmonix 12AT7 - now it if PHENOMENAL. A little less loud with the 12AT7 vs 12AX7, but the crunch seems to come on at a little lower volume too, which is good with a 1 year old in the house (my wife keep sthinking I'm going to damage his ears, because he likes to be in the room when I play and bounce around to the blues), and the highs are more chimey, crystally - net/net - it is a great amp for a total investment of less then $250 including the new tubes.
