The Twin's better in my opinion. I can't really tell you why, but it just sounds better.

There's a lot of factors involved in this decision: 1)volume, 2)tone, 3)type of guitar (single coil vs. humbuckers), 4)genre of music, and 5)venue where you need to use the amp.

As for volume, if you're playing a large venue, your band should miking everything through a PA system. Even a small amp miked can rock. I've seen guys kick butt in clubs with nothing more than a Fender Blues Junior; a Type A 15 watt amp pushing a 1x12" speaker.

The type of guitar can be a big factor. The best way to get tone out of any tube amp is to turn the amp up and the guitar down. Humbucking pickups (Les Pauls) change their tone pretty drastically when they're turned down compared to single coil pickups (Strats, Teles). Single coil pickup tone is much more consistent, whether the guitar is turned up or down, in my opinion.

The Super Reverb is a great amp that pushes 45 watts of power thru 40" (4x10") of speakers, whereas, the Twin has 24" (2x12") of speakers. Don't underestimate the volume of the Super Reverb; pushing 40" of air it projects a lot of volume.

From my experience, for a small to medium sized club, the Twin is overkill. I've used a Twin outdoors successfully to give you an idea of the power of a Twin Reverb. I've had guys with Marshall stacks ask me to turn down my Twin Reverb because it can cut right through! LOL

SRV used both amps, Twin Reverb and Super Reverb, for good reason; they each have their own unique tone qualities. Personally, I prefer the tight sound of 10" speakers. If you want the best of both worlds, skip both amps and get a Fender Vibro-King with the Vibro-King extension cabinet. With that setup you have 60 watts of A/B amplifier pushing the internal 3x10" speakers and the 2x12" extension speaker cabinet.

The rig I just mentioned is being used by Pete Townsend. He ditched his Gibson SG and Marshall amps in favor of an Eric Clapton Stratocaster and multiple Fender Vibro-Kings.

Remember, a lot of working club musicians are getting by with a Fender Deluxe Reverb; a 22 watt A/B amplifier with 1x12" speaker. My next amp is going to be a Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb; a 40 watt A/B amp pushing 2x10" speakers.

If you're a hobbyist playing at home, good luck opening up a Twin Reverb; the neighbors will be calling the cops on you for being too loud. LOL

Have you actually played both amps side-by-side? You should before you lay down your money. Whatever you decide, you can't go wrong with a Fender amplifier.

For more history on Fender amps, go read Dick Dale's history with Leo Fender. It was the King of Surf Guitar that we have to thank for Fender's tube reverb and more.

I don't know if I've confused you more than helped you, but there's some info to help you make your decision.

Best regards,
BluesRenegade

I've owned both, now I only own a Twin...very reliable over a 25 year period.
