I have a matched pair of JJ 6L6's on the way for my HR DeVille 410.

Who here has any experience of them, particularly with this series of amp and whats your thoughts please.

Thank you.

I like them a lot. I run Eurotubes "Blues Option #1" They really tamed the tone of my HRDlx.

I just got the Blues #2 set for my HRDx and it improved it 400%. I can even use the distorted channels now. They are creamy not crunchy splats.

JJ power tubes are still great. The preamp tubes are no longer that good. Quality went down. For power tubes you made a good choice. Can't go wrong with JJ, newer Groove Tubes, and Winged "C".

I never had any problems with JJ preamp tubes. I use them in most of my amps. Groove Tubes are pure over priced garbage IMHO.

I second that from Supro. The only tubes ever to fail me in the middle of a gig are Groove Tubes. I use a Crate VC 508 modified to run a pure tube preamp and power amp path hooked to a 12" speaker to do "taste tests" of different tubes. I always end up throwing most of the Groove Tubes out. They do make a 6L6 I haven't heard yet so there still may be hope. Little expensive because of 90% American components.

I havent tried the JJs yet, i bought a Bassman reissue with Jan Phillips tubes in it and my search stopped there. I may try them in my Blue Deluxe though.Any ideas on smoothing out the drive channel?

It's tough to mod the drive channel without effecting the clean on a Blues Deluxe. The only possible easy component swap that I can see, looking at the schematic, is playing around with "C4". It's a 750pf1Kv ceramic cap that kicks in the signal path on drive mode. Probably try different values and types.(e.g. silver mica)

Hmm,sounds like an interesting mod.I may try it when the warranty is up.Right now I am hooked on the overdrive in my Bassman. As far as overdrive goes, i have never heard anything quite as nice.Trouble is now, everything is being compared to the Bassman overdrive.

That's a tough act to follow. Best amp ever made. Marshall copied it almost entirely.

They newer ones are cheap and much better than the old power tubes. The JJ preamp tubes that had the light colored writing are bad $@!. The new ones all test low for transconductance and seem to be inconsistant. Now if you buy them from a good dealer that can sell you a known tested high gain tube JJ preamp tubes are fine but you will find that KCA doesn't carry the preamps tubes anymore and that is for a reason.

Where did you get that info. Did you test them yourself or from a website?
I've gotten JJ preamp tubes from Eurotubes and never had a problem with them ever. Sounds a little like propaganda from a NOS dealer.

Yeah I have 3 tube testers and can test them at working votages that an amp would use. Good deals like where you got yours will for sure not sell you a dud but in general I"m seeing lower GM on each triode. Sometimes like 100/80 or even 80/80 as a good sellable tube. 80/80 isn't bad by any means but for sure not a V1 tube.
