I have a fender solid state amp and it cuts off for a few minutes then works again. Anyone else had this problem and know what it is?

Got any more details / info regarding the problem?

How long and how loud do you play before it cuts out? Which model is it?

Could be a thermal cutout. Hard to tell without more info...

Agree, sounds like thermal runaway, probably due to a short circuit, or burned out power transistor somwhere. Power semiconductors usually short out when they fail, and sometimes they will burn and only then go open circuit. In any case, operating your amp will cause more damage, so get it fixed.

ciao,
johnny.

It is a Fender Deluxe 85. I have the volume on about 5, reverb on 10 (when I use it) and boost on 8.

Its random the length of time it takes to cut the sound. I've used in three times, it did it four or fives times the 1st time i used it, didn't do it once the second time and once the third time then I left it. Usually after about 20 minutes though.

This condition can be caused by numerous problems, ranging from open traces on the printed circuit board (heat expands board intermittantly opening a bad trace), to a thermally sensitive surface mounted component, to a broken lead on a ceramic resistor that is sensitive to vibration (in use)... etc..

Unless you are comfortable and qualified with working on electronics, you would be best advised to take the amp to a qualified Fender repair center and let them go over the amp.

Although the repair might be very simple, the diagnostic time/labor will be the expense.

Good luck.

Be sure to check your cables first. Most issues like this for me over the years have ben shorting cables. In amps, the fuzes tend to start blowing first. Start with the simple things first
