I own a Fender Hot Rod Deville 212 amp. I was wondering if it was possible to connect an 8ohm extension cab?

I recently took it to the local music shop to see if I could trade it in for a 410 Deville because I thought only 410s could run with an 8ohm extension cabinet and discovered that the external speaker output was dead (Getting fixed, still under warranty!). They then told me that there should be no reason why I wouldn't be able to use an 8ohm extension cab with the 212.

Maybe I am being paranoid, but I just want to know for sure if they're correct because another employee of theirs told me I could not use an 8ohm extension cab with a 212 Hot Rod Deville.

If any one could clarify this for me, I would appreciate it. I am very confused at the moment, and really do not want to damage my amp or cabinet.

I am not 100% sure. It doesn't clearly say, that's what's got me so confused.

60 watts into 4ohms or 2 ohms at 5% THD

I don't really know? BAH! So frustrating!

I looked at the manual for my 410 and it also shows possible configurations for the 212.

It appears that you can NOT plug in an 8 ohm extension cabinet.
It only shows combinations for 4 or 2 ohm arrangements.

Now, if you are able to do a series/parallel wiring configuration on the extension cabinet to obtain close to 4 ohms, it should work keeping the internal speakers plugged into "V" and adding the cabinet to "W" to play through both sets of speakers or
removing the internal speaker plug from "V" and adding the external cabinet to "V" to play through only the added cabinet.

Thanks for your help. I really don't understand why my other sources all said that it would be okay to use an 8ohm cabinet with this amp. I got so frustrated yesterday I called my friend who works at guitar center... And I talked to tech support at musicians friend who said:

"Yes, you can use this amp with a 4x12 extension cabinet, however, doing so will bypass the speakers in your amp (i.e. all of the power from the amp will be directed into the extension cabinet.)

Please feel free to contact us if you have any more questions or concerns."

I noticed the online manuals for the new (and way more expensive?!) 212 devilles and the 410s look like they're configured the exact same way enabling an 8ohm extension cab hook up with the 212.

I guess I am just going to play it safe. Maybe I'll call fender tomorrow.

Anyone want to trade a 410 deville for a 212? :)

2 - 8ohm speakers in parallel gets you 4 ohms. A 212 cab of this config would work. If internal is 4 ohm then the total becomes 2ohm. 4 x 4=16/4 + 4= 2ohm.
