Yep, I 've had it for two months. Had it at band practice last night and everything was fine. Went to practice tonight, turned it on , plugged in, nothing. Changed guitars, cords , everything I could think of, no sound. Zip Zilch nada. No hums, buzzes, quiet as a mouse, almost like the input jack has a broken wire or something. Tubes glowing, allthough the pre-amp tube is rather dim, but I really don't know how bright it's supposed to be. Any Ideas before I take it in to the dealer? :?

Try running a cable from the Line Out to another amp or to an audio device or a guitar to computer interface (like a Line6 Toneport) and see how it works. If you get sound, then you have some issue with the tubes. If you have some spares try swapping them. I would start with the 12AX7 first, then the power tubes - they are 6V6s.

If you can't do this, you will have to get it fixed by a tech. Since Fender Amps have a 5-year warranty, it should be covered. Tubes are only covered for 90-days if I remember right.

Hope this helps,

Ok....just got back from the shop and it was a bad preamp tube. It was glowing but that's about it. All is well again thanks!

Exact same thing for me, bad 12AX7. Mine went half hour before I was to be playing at a backyard party.

Here's something weird to try. I put the tube that did not work in the SCXD in to another amp. AND IT WORKED! Guess I just don't know how tubes really work. I read somewhere that the SCXD only uses one "side" of the 12AX7. Maybe the other amp used the other "side".

I've had two Super Champ XD's. Exchanged the first due to scratching and hiss. Just put my second in the warranty shop, same problems. Have a friend who has gone through the same thing.

The quality of the tubes on these amps is extremely poor. Replace all three and you'll have a good amp again.

It's sad Fender puts out this kind of quality given their heritage.

I'm just chiming in here. I've had my SCXD for about 9 weeks now and I play it everyday for several hours a day. I've got some bad habits left over from many years of solid state use- I like to take small breaks when I play and I tend to leave my amp on while not in use- I've gotta stop that.

I bought my SCXD late January for $276 out the door. I agree it's shame that these gems don't come with highest quality tubes (I think Fender kind of gives us a bit of a warning by only covering them for 90 days), but then again for the amp's price and considering all they do- I'm not complaining.

I was thinking though that maybe sometimes the tubes just need to be reseated because they get bumped loose from transporting and that would explain why they worked again in another amp. Or maybe they burn out to a certain point and (like a battery) they aren't strong enough for use in one amp, but they will work in another- I really don't know enough.

When I got mine at GC they were out of stock and I had to wait for Fender to ship another so I took a floor model in the meantime and I noticed that it had protective cylinders (canisters) over each individual tube instead of a cage over all of them like the one I ended up with. I'm just bringing this up because the tubes in the floor model had noticably weeker output and were not as warm. I'm thinking maybe it was an older model that had been on the floor since they first came out because it had a big ugly scrape across the side and nobody was taking it home for good. Does anybody know if they improved any of the tubes at some point?

mjh1954 I'm glad you got it fixed and all is well- it's good to know that the tubes can glow and look AOK and still not work- for future reference.

BTW: has anybody upgraded the tubes and noticed marked improvement in tone- and did they last any longer?
