I am thinking of putting a new speaker (maybe the Cannabis Rex) in my BLues Deluxe Reissue. Will it ake that much difference. Also, on another forum I was told that switching tubes really did not make that much difference. Any opinion?

Thanks!

Have you listened to the speaker sound samples at the Eminence site ?
http://www.eminence.com/soundclips.asp
The speaker in you amp is most probably a Eminence Legend 125 if it is just the standard issue version of the amp.

Changing tube brands alters the sound a bit, Changing tube models can alter it even more.

I'm using 5751 (v1), 12ax7(v2) and 12at7(v3) tamed the amp a bit and have more headroom before breakup.
And ditched all the stock GrooveTubes,
JJ's and Jan Philips sound better to me.
Or NOS if you can get/afford them.

Instead of replacing the stock speaker which was our initial plan we are going to make a couple of closed back extension cabs.
That way you can use either speaker or both speakers simultaneously and leave the amp unmodified.

Making mods to the tone stack, power supply and output transformer alters the sound a lot more, But the hot-rod PCB is not suited to easily making mods without damaging the board.

Yes, I can .
But how/what are you listening with?

I'm either driving a pair of studio monitors though my E=MU 404 sound interface or sending the signal through my sound system.
I can hear the difference much better through the monitors, when trying to listen to the samples on my laptop I cannot tell the difference at all either. :)

have the C rex in my hot rod deluxe, nice Vintage 30 sound without the weight, so I am happy camper, the amp came with a Vintage 30 which is definitely better than the stock speaker,

reversing the polarity on a speaker also really improves the sound, simple to do, does not hurt anything and can really improve the tone of any speaker.

He's saying to hook up the + and - out of phase and try it. The speaker will pull instead of push.

In a multi-driver cab, is it necessary to reverse the polarity on all the speakers?

yes, otherwise some will cancel, for cabinets I make a reversed connector so I can try it out and see the effect first. I also have a reversed 1/4" jack / plug that I can insert easily. really easy to make.

In my opinion speakers can change the amps tone. Also be care of the watts and ohms rating. You can blow out some speakers if you go to low.
