I just came from the Musician's Friend website, looking at the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amp. It said "clearance" on the page. Are the Hot Rod Deluxe amps being discontinued?

I don't think so. It's probably just a scratch and dent or something that they are offering a reduced price on.

I don't think so either :)

Remember it's Fender most selled tube amplifier for the moment.

Maybe Shane Nicolas will be giving us a few hints!

Because it has been the most unreliable Fender amp I've owned since the second month I've owned it. It sounds good after a tube change, but usually not for very long. The solder joints are horrible on these things and the tubes sockets are not wired to the pcb, they are soldered to the board. The traces are thin on the pcb. I have many heat related problems. Granted I play this thing for hours at a crack. I just had my tech resolder every joint on the board and replace the cheap caps with American components. The power section caps are a bit larger but he got them in and so far so good. My amp is 2 1/2 years old.
A 5 year warranty is great but not when you need to use it all the time.

Playing one in Sam Ash and making a living playing music are two different things. I'm semi retired now, but made a living for 25 years playing music professionally. I sold off most of my amps including (reluctantly) my SF Deluxe Reverb. Frequent equipment failures are a serious headache. I got this amp because I'm older and wanted a lighter amp with a little grit. I usually use a 76 Twin with a Tube Screamer.

63, Im sorry for your troubles, but could'nt you put the Hot Rod on ebay, and use the money for something you do like?

I couldn't sell it to anyone with a clear conscience. I would feel like I'm ripping someone off like I was. I'm a seriously honest person who really believes in Karma. It's not really an issue of money at all. I can get another amp tomorrow. I have other amps to use too. I actually like the way the amp sounds. A friend of mine made a hand wired HRDlx using American made components and the transformers from the original amp. It's a thing of beauty and sounds amazing. I will probably build a Mission 5e3 kit.

It's a shame. Look at different forums. The first thing most people do is replace the speaker and tubes. My speaker is original. If you give it time to break in it's not bad. Cold solder joints have been a problem since the 90's, but nothing has been done to address the problem. I would gladly pay more to have hand wired sockets like the DRRI or Bassman. My tech won't do it , but if it fails again I might do it myself to see if it solves any problems.

I have never had a problem with my HRD. I use it once a month with my Blues DeVille 410. I find it has a nice rang of tones, a little brighter than the Blues DeVille.
