i've been having problems with my hotrod deville. sometimes, not all the time, it will start squealing, not a feedback type of squeal, but a piercing like scream. this happens with the guitar plugged in or not. also the footswitch in or out.

i've tried everything to narrow it down. the other night we were gigging, and i had it on stand-by during our break. all of a sudden this thing starts squealing. all the fans had to hold their ears until i flipped the on/off switch a couple times to get it to stop. even unplugging all the cables didn't make it stop.

i've had it in the repair shop several times and they can't duplicate the sound. he checked all the tubes and did the bias thing.

i'm at the point where i am thinking of trading it for the new Line 6 Spider Valve (tube amp).

please help.

thanks!

I've never heard of it squealing while in standby.

I play through one of these and once I changed the tubes and got it a good service its the best amp I've owned, never failed me although others will argue that point. Everything that breaks can usually be fixed.

Where's the gurus?

I know the squealing you're talking about and I feel your pain; the cure I have doesn't sound like it'll work for you but it certainly does for me. I ensure it's securely plugged in before powering up. I've had it plugged into loose sockets and while playing have had the dreaded squeal kick in and sometimes nothing until it's in standby and then somebody walks by the cord or it gets touched and squeal squeal squeal. The way I figured this out was when I was practicing at home and my son's stereo on the other side of the wall started ratteling things while the amp was in standby, I turned the volume down with no effect but after securely plugging it in I haven't had this happen again.

Hope it'll work for you.
