It's apples and oranges. There is just no comparison. The Bassman is just a killer amp. People tend to defend what they own. I get to borrow one a couple times a month from a very close friend. It's one of thy finest amps Fender currently manufactures. Just read the posts. There is rarely a problem with the Bassman. Anything related to the Hot Rod series is a different story.

My mind is pretty much made up as I may be getting the bassman sometime this year. I had been thinking of the blues deville, the 65 twin reverb, and the super reverb, but doing my research...the bassman would probably be the best bet for me as a better alternative than lugging a halfstack Marshall. Thanks 63supro.

You said you aren't gigging. I would just go play all the amps you can and pick the one that sounds the best. I have a Hot Rod Deluxe and after changing the tubes to the Eurotubes blues #2 (6v6 tubes) I absolutely love it more than I did originally. What tones are you looking for? That is key. If I were to buy another amp for at home I would go for a lower watt fender reissue like the 65. Good luck with your search and have fun.

I am falling in love with my used 59 bassman. Its one of the 1990's reissues. There are some technical issues I need to iron out, but my lord the sounds it makes! Beautiful tone even at great volumes. A masterpiece!

SNAP. What brand tubes did U put in and also have U ever tried changing just one of the preamp tubes to get a better overdrive, some say changing the 2nd preamp tube makes a big difference breaking the overdrive sound up, do U have anything to chip in on that. I love my HRD which I got last week, best clean sound I have heard, and hearing it live compared to youtube is totally different

In the Uk the 59 bassman is over £1200, which is steep seen as it is only £850 gbp in america, but I know when it comes to marshall its the other way round, but I don't like marshall so that does not soften the blow. Anyway the HRD is great for clean sounds and I love it, going to get a good pedal to give it a better overdrive sound compared to what it has now.

wow drug this one up from the past.
I've been through a 90's 59 bassman RI , a Bassman LTD, several DRRI's and Lord knows what else since my comment here.

Now I play through a TRRI 65 Twin Reverb RI that to me is the perfect tone.

Heavy and loud but perfect !

I have had and presently have two Blues Deville 2x12s. I like them very much. that being said. I recently got a 59 bassman. OMG! what a sweet amp. It is so user friendly. Most of the time I leave my pedal board at home. Just a little tweak on my guitars volume knob and you go from clean and clear to a scream. My other amps have been gathering a lot of dust since I got it.
