I am thinking of buying a new amp but am not sure wether to get a Fender Frontman 212R or an Orange Crush 30R. Which do you think is better?

"Better" is too subjective for anyone here to answer. The best you can do is find them in a music shop and test them for yourself.

But better for you or for me? I don't know what kind of music you play or how you play. For me, the Fender no doubt about it. But that answer probably doesn't help you ...

:D

I have the Crush 30R, and it's a reliable little amp. Really only suitable for practice, though...

I have a friend who has a 212R. He seems to be very happy with it. It's going to rough use too.....even a beer or two spilled all over it. Still keeps going.

To get a better sound, get a new tube amp. To get a different sound, look into effects.

A Fender tube amp is the way to go. I should be getting my DRRI any day now.

I got the Fender DRRI. Man, it is sooooooooooooooo nice. I have a Cyber Deluxe and it's nice too but the 65' just kills. The dynamics are insane! The reverb is gorgeous dripping wet. I run the spring in the 65' and Flerb on the holy grail together. To me, it seems like every effect you plug in is under the microscope. You can really hear the nuances that simply do not come across with any modeler IMHO... like true bypass, sparkling highs, shrill highs that will melt your wallpaper... it all depends on how you manager your FX chain. Lately, it has made me crazy trying to get the right compressor... I have a hunch I'll end up with the Barber Tone Press. the 65 DRRI is the loudest freekin' 22 watts you could ever imagine. I can't recommend it more highly. I can't imagine how the Mercury Magnetics transformers/choke mods could make a difference? Perhaps one day someone will talk me into it. Perhaps it's such an improvement that no one wants to "spill the beans". If I run it much past 3, everyone in my house starts going nuts! Hope that helps.
