texasguitarslinger won a Fender Deluxe VM from this site. His impressions are available in a thread named Fender Deluxe VM: First Impressions - http://www.fender.com/community/forums/viewtopic.php?t=18301

I tried the head and cab. It's nothing like the original Bandmaster I had a 74.
It sounds too digital and phony to me. Epically the distortion and reverb. You have to try it yourself you may like it. The Vintage Molested series is just not my cup of tonal tea. I'd take a Deluxe Reverb Reissue any day.

Hey Gil, there is a poster on the strat forum (I think) and he was looking to talk to someone who owns a VG Strat like the one you won here. I did not know if you saw it or not. Good day my friend!

You're right big time.... worth reading big time, good to see some people blowing off steam.

Think I'm gonna try and get the Basmman blackface head I've always wanted instead.

I'm interested in that amp. From my understanding, the distortion is tube, correct? The reverb and delay effects are the only digital signal, right? I thought this amp was different than the Super champ and vibro champ XD's which process the whole signal digitally then send it to the tube amp circuit.

Oh my God! Supro is right. Just found a schematic on the amp. They didn't have it posted last time I looked. TL072 op amps in the signal chain right off the bat. A hybrid amp they have the go-nads to call a Bandmaster. What has the world come to? Just makes me want to build my own! Scratch the Bandmaster VM off the list!

Let me say right up front that I have played professionally for 45 years and after a 10 year layoff, I am playing in Christian Band that travels. My 20 year old Carvin 100 watt x amp has seen better days! I changed the tubes and speaker and had it serviced to the tune of about $400.00. My thinking was that where am I going to get a 100 watt tube amp for $400.00 these days. Well I got to use it all last summer and about 3 weeks ago the old girl went up in smoke!! So I start doing alittle research and see the Deluxe VM but none of the big or little stores had one to try out. I happened to find a store a little ways away that had one in stock so I went to check it out. I plugged in and this little amp sounded as good as the HRD that I compaired it with but the od channel was a little harsh. I was able to get some of that out with the active electronics on my guitar so I decided to get it and I'm glad I did! I took it home and immediatly replaced the crappy tubes to JJ's and swapped out the speaker with an emminence Lil Texas Nep that I had laying around. The difference is night and day! Now mind you that I was up against budget constraints so I was a little limited on what I could spend even at the tender age of 53! Bottom line is that I have owned a 69 Bassman, 72 Duel Showman, 2 Twins, A 71 Bandmaster, And a 78 Super Twin that I'd like to forget! Maybe it's just me but I find the effects to be usefull and not cheesey sounding at all and with the drive channel now quite creamy after the new tubes and speaker, I am satisfied with this amp. Is it a Dumble or Soldano? Come on! It is what it is; a good, decent Fender amp with a great clean channel and a useable od channel for about 850 with improvements. I could care less if it isn't 100% tube cause it sounds good and will do the job for me. I would have loved to get something better but I am happy over all with the Deluxe VM. I can't tell you the compliments I have had on my tone the last 3 weeks! As for reliability, well we will just have to wait and see. Just my 2 cents! God Bless!

I respect your opinion Johnny1823, but when you run your signal thru an op amp, it gets sterile. Kinda defeats the purpose of having tubes in your amp. I owned and modded lots of different amps, and there is nothing that sounds like a pure tube signal path. The added maintenance of having to replace tubes all the time is worth it. But for me, the moment you put an op amp in the signal path, the signal turns sterile. It doesn't matter how many tubes are after that op amp, you are still going to be amplifying a solid state signal. Granted, the signal may be warmed up a bit after going thru the tubes, but still, it's like putting a pedal in front of your amp. I'd like to make the pedal decision myself. Which is why I'm going to look for something else. Super-Sonic anybody?
