I would have to say
G Dec
Roland cube 20
Champion 600 reissue
Pignose 7-100
Roland micro cube
Vibro Champ XD
Frontman 15G
Vox AD15VT

I tried most of them, they're all great for practice. Good luck.

You got a lot more answers to this thread when you asked it in the Lounge forum
http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=19923

Generally should only open the thread once,
some of us old guys get confused easily and forget what we did and where :)

Claude has already made a nice list. I'd add a Blues Jr. to it if you can fit it in your budget.

You definately have to try a Roland Cube (various sizes, depending on the one that fits your needs) before you buy anything else.

I repeat, do NOT buy anything else before you have tried one of these. You will thank me :D

Well, if you're poor like me and you want a ton of sounds, pick up a used Behringer V-Amp2. Little modeling deal, cheap (like $50 used) and it will give you a bunch of different sounds and a headphone jack.

If you want a REAL amp, then I agree with the Blues Jr. suggestion. That amp will get you on the road to true, pure sound.

Start pure, get dirty and then clean it up.

:)

God bless.

Joe

If you can handle a littler repair work try calling Karen at Blue Monkey Industries. She offer some damaged goods are real low prices. Some need big repairs and some very little. Call and talk to her. She's reasonable, shipping is well packed and reasonable and very honest as to what she is selling you. 949 4396914. Tell her that Bob, the Export Stage 160 guy, sent you. It's worth a call and you'll be surprised at what you can get for the money. She's also on eBay under the name fendervender69 and has listed a few G-Decs. Have a look.

You may want to consider a headphone amp. It depends on who or what you live with... :D

There are lots of good amps out there. If you're looking for something reasonable that will allow you to play gigs eventually or jam with friends, I would look hard in pawnshops. I know a lot of people will crucify me for saying this, but the Peavey Bandit 65 is a great amp than can be had for abut $200 used. They're everywhere, nearly indestructible, and sound good at low volumes (unlike many tube amps). Indeed, my Bandit -- which I've had for years -- has never failed me and its loud enough to overpower a drummer if need be.

I think when buying amps it is best to buy used if you can. Amps, guitars and gear are like cars: they depreciate the second you walk out of the store with them. Consequently, for $200-$300 you can get a great used amp or a mediocre new amp. Just make sure everything works on it -- if you can, take someone experienced with you. Hope that helps!

I've got to make a list of these suggestions before I go on the hunt for my first amp!
