I seem to get a crazy wierd crackling sounf with pops and all sort of wierd noises when I play my Blues JR at loud volumes, usually after around 15 minutes. Does anyone have any ideal of what is causing this?

I had a similar problem with my Pro Jr. Took it to a very good amp repair shop, and they said that all the Hot Rod series breaks down about the time they need new tubes. 2 main culprits are the input jack and the soldering needing to be redone. I had the input jack fixed and the problem persisted, so I'm thinking it's the soldering. I'll know in a week or two.

Find a reputable repair shop and see what they say. Good luck!

If you get that awful sound with the reverb on, it might be the reverb tank, my Blues Jr. NOS is only a year old and it broke. It would start with a crackling noise getting louder and louder and finally feedback. I had to drive 40 miles to drop it at the closest 'Fender Authorized Repair Center' to be covered by the warranty. When this amp works its awesome but broken after a year? its very dissapointing...good luck

The issue was the cold-solder on the main capacitors sitting on the component board. Once things started heating up, plus the vibration, it sounded like someone taking the live guitar cable and rubbing it across steel wool! Real nasty and a great way to blow a driver.

I resoldered it and also supported the caps (like the size of 35MM film tubes) with a heat resistant silicone and a zip tie. Never another issue.

Apparently on both SS and tube amps by Fender (and I'm sure other manufacturers) the cold solder points tend to fail after a while.

NOTE: If you're going in there and fixing like I did, for God's sake, be careful. Those capacitors store enough voltage to kill you.

God bless.

Joe

Bad solder joints on the power tubes can do it too. My HRDlx did the same thing. If I knew how cheaply it was made, I would have never bought it.
