I recently purchased a NOS limited edition Blues Jr from GC. It has a lacquered tweed cabinet and a Jensen P12R. Other than that is anyone aware of any other differences between this and the standard Blues Jr?

The saleskid at GC said that it also had a better transformer and different tubes than the regular Blues Jr. I cannot locate any information to support these claims though. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

floodsurf,

I may be corrected here, but the only difference between the two is the speaker and the relic treatment oh and the bit price of course. I don't own one so I'll wait for others to chime in.

Thanks X-Road28. I should point out that this is not the relic model I am inquiring about, but rather the NOS model. In all liklihood though they probably make the relics out of the NOS amp.

I have one of the tweed blue juniors. Way better tone than a standard blues junior due to the speaker.

I have a Jr Relic & it has a P12R, but a rear photo of the NOS limited edition tweed sold at MF shows a different Jensen (ceramic[big magnet]).
Not sure what you've got. speaker should be blue with small magnet
housing & "P12R" stamped on the rim in white ink.
Do a side by side with the std Jr & relic in GC. Take a flasklight & look
inside of each real good. I would expect no other difference except maybe tubes.

Tell us what you find.

p.s. The P12R is the REAL DEAL !!! It's worth trading the good looks
of the NOS Tweed for the ratty Relic (s/b the same price).

good luck

The Blues Jr. NOS Lacquer Tweed is very clean cosmetically--it does not look all beat up like the Blues Jr. Relic pictured in this forum.

The relic you all are talking about doesn't even seem to be a currently produced amp, even according to the Products section of the Fender web site. Maybe some music stores are selling them off from left over stock?!

If you look at guitarcenter.com there are 3 different Blues Juniors, all priced differently:

1) Fender Blonde Blues Junior Guitar Amp - $399.99
2) Fender Blues Junior Combo Amp (black tolex) - $449.99
3) Fender Blues Jr. NOS Lacquer Tweed Guitar Combo Amp - $529.99

Since no one from Fender is weighing in here, I'm gonna send a copy of this message to Fender Customer Service and see what answer I get. Will let you all know.

John

note to hobbyist:

The relic is a GC special. That is why you don't see it at the Fender site.
They put in a P12R & send it south for the tweed.

from what I understand beyond the speaker and lacquered tweed and included foot switch (fat control), the electronics are identical to the stock Blues Jr. Same circuit board, same transformer - identical...

If U'r interested in converting U'r stock Blues Jr. into a serious amp w/ unbelievable tone and character - check out Bill M's mods!!
http://billmaudio.com/wp/

btw - I like the tone of the jensen on the low end - but the bridge goes ice pick. The Bill M mods and a better balanced speaker R the shizzle.

Yep it's the same. remember, If you mod it, you void the warranty. The warranty is really important. If you don't like the way it sounds, don't mod it, sell it and get something different.

All the electronics are the same in all the BJs. The only differences are the speaker and cosmetic finishes (black or tolex, laqured tweed, relic tweed).

The Tweed NOS has the Jensen C12-N
http://www.jensentone.com/c12n.php

I don't know what the "Relic" has.

I have one of the First Tweed Blues JRs purchased at Guitar Center (Cream Board).
I bought it used for $350.00. A Guitar Amp Builder who worked with Fargen Amps owned it.
This Amp sounded different than any Blues Jr I have Played. He had a Telefunken 12ax7 V1 and a 12au7 V2 .This changed the tone and feel of the Amp. By inserting the 12au7 in V2 cut the output that it enabled me to turn the Amp Master and Volume up to around 9 without Distortion. I then Had Steve Carr (Carr Amps) make me one of his cables for the Speaker. This allowed me to keep the C12N in the Amp. This amp is smooth from top to bottom. I used the REX, Kingpin 60, (best Mids and highs, but lacking bottom in Blues Jr). and the Naylor 50. The C12N with the set-up I have sounds more full and even. Without the above mods the C12N gets a little thin on the top-end.

Amps; 1966 Deluxe Reverb, Carr Rambler. Don't need high wattage amps
One-OFF 1993 Flame Gretsch Orange Strat. Only use one guitar. sold all others

1973 Fender Jazz Bass Natural with Black Block Inlays. SWR Studio Amp with 2 8" Speakers X 2 Cabinets.
