I think I'd go with the Blues Jr. too if he wants a brand new one. You don't want someone else's headache with a used one (If you know what I mean?) A new one has a warranty! A plus for me. If you could find a used one from someone you can trust you might get more amp for the money.
Good luck Snowy, I hope he gets a good deal! :)

How much is that Texas Red Blues Jr. ?

It's only $574.99 @ MF - http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Hot-Rod-Blues-Junior-15W-1x12-Tube-Guitar-Combo-Amp?sku=483558 or $575.00 at Eldery's - http://elderly.com/fmic/names/fender-and-reg%3b-fsr-blues-junior%3csup%3e%3csmall%3etm%3c/sm--BJTR.htm

Wow Guys!!!

Thank you all for your imput, I'm gonna send a link to this thread to my nephew. He is talking about getting a spider jam, his dad had a lot of fun with mine here. I hooked up my Blues Jnr here for him too, obviously he was blown away by the difference. But he reckons my nephew will have more fun with the spider jam, I'm not convinced though. So... I've advised him to go demo them both, or if he wants something else, it's entirely his choice. As for his style of play, his biggest influence is Jimi Hendrix. My bro tells me he plays some mean blues, he's a talented guitarist. That's the reason I'm encouraging him, thanks for all your help. I'll let you know what he goes for, I think they boy is gonna surprise his dad and go for a Fender amp 8)

Hi guys,
I'm looking for some advice, with regard to getting my nephew in Va a new amp. He's 18 and plays a MIM Strat, according to my bro he plays it very well. My bro and I have been talking, and I've decided to get him a new amp. I'm looking at the $500 - $650 range, I don't have much of an idea what a decent amp will cost in the states. So I'd be extremely grateful for any pointers, thanks in advance guys.

What kind of music does he like to play?
