Did you look at Weber? It might be a little better suited for a Champ.

No I never checked out the Weber. What is the main difference between the two speakers?

A 75 watt speaker in a 15 watt amp seems like serious overkill. The Rajun Cajun sounds great when you push it with like a HRDlx or even a DRRI. Some of the Weber's in the 25- 50 watt range will probably sound a bit better because they'll work a little harder. It just really depends on what you're looking for. The Weber's have a more vintage type of sound.

Just for the sake of commentary, did you happen to realize you need a replacement speaker (ala Ragin Cagin) because someone else recommended it, or do you feel like the stock speaker really needs the upgrade (by your own ears)? I too read tons of stuff about upgrading the speaker, but now after playing the amp for about two months, I am totally happy with the stock speaker. I must add for the sake of argument, that I split the signal from my guitar. One, to the Super Champ, the other to an older Twin-Reverb so I do get a fuller sound than with the SC by itself. By itself, it still rocks too though.

Speakers also need to be broken in. I thought you were changing it because you were unhappy with it. An upgrade is only an upgrade if You like it in the end. Sometimes I run a 2x10 extension cab with my 74 Champ. It sounds awesome. Speakers are a tough call. Very subjective stuff. After playing for 40+ years, I pretty much know what I like and what works for me. :D

I too really dig the stock speaker. Sounds great recorded. I have heard excellent reviews of the RC. I ended up swapping my SCXD speaker out for a Jensen C10Q just for kicks. It may not be the most popular choice, but there was a notable difference in the room. Better low end and more full, open sound. Not sure how that will translate in a recording, but it was a fun swap. That with a Mullard 12AX7 RI have made a great amp even a little better. A little better makes a big difference.

The 10Q is a sweet speaker. The more you play them the better they sound. It should record just fine.

Awesome. I also noticed that the 10Q does sparkly clean really well. My other speaker was breaking up a little earlier, which is fine, but I prefer the Jensen cleanliness.

Chet, one of our esteemed posters, is always singing the praises of Scumback speakers. :)

well i did it! i swapped out the speaker plus the preamp tube to a tungsol 12ax7 and i am quite happy with the results. the amp, at leat to my ears sounds crisper and more articulate when strumming and playing single notes. is it much different than the stock speaker? I would say that i notice a difference but again the stock speaker is also quite good. i am a natural born tinkerer so i may have swapped out the speaker just for the sake of swapping it out. i swaped out the speaker first played it and thought this sounds good. then i swapped out the preamp tube to the tungsol and that is when there was a difference from the stock setup.

so now, a little more help please. where do i go from here? what upgrade now? do i change the 6v6's ?

please help....
