I've been tempted by Super Sonic amps a couple of times. I've enjoyed their tone, both clean and dirty, at the shop but am wondering if there's anyone out there that regularly gigs/records with them, and can give me info on their sound, reliability, etc?

I bought a second hand head closely followed by the matching 2 x 12 cab in beige. I also own a Marshall DSL50 and vintage 4x12. Firstly I would say if you go for the head option buy the matching cab, they seem really well suited. My head seems really well screwed together and came with the original tubes (still going fine). I've owned it a year and gigged it about 20 times as well as rehearsed and used it at home loads. Its difficult to get a bad sound with it, I use a roadhouse Strat and an american standard Tele. Turn the Vibrolux channel up with a Tele and its Keith Richards territory, crank the bassman channel for lovely crunch, both channels have a great clean sound (as you'd expect). A bit more OD required use the burn channel. Not Marshall drive but still usable. I bought my Supersonic for a Who tribute I play in (couldn't afford a VK!!). Its great and I will be keeping it.

Hi there - I had my super-sonic combo since 2006. I can say that it is a very reliable amp. The tube sockets of the super-sonic are not soldered directly on the PC board like some tubes amps from Fender (i,e. Hot Rod series), but they are screwed directly on the chassis. That is a key feature that will make a tube amp more reliable than any other amps because the PCB board doesn't get over-heated after long hours of playing. The super-sonic is a true pro tube amp. but its design and TONE !

You should be able to order them from an authorized Fender dealer. However, there are better options. You can order a matched pair of 6L6GC from thetubestore.com, and tell them to send you a perfect matched pair that is in the same range of the color of the GT you were using (i.e. if your GT are blue, tell them that). This way, there will not be a need to reset the bias (which would only be like trowing holy water on your amp if the new tubes are in the same range....)

I am using the TAD 6L6WGC-STR in my super-sonic combo, some folks also like the Winged "C" (SED) 6L6GC.

I`ve had my supersonic now for two months and it fits my needs for a small not to heavy combo all tubes with the legendary sound..I had to go back to all tubes mind you i traded in my cyber twin. I also plan to buy a cabinet for larger gigs and also most of my gigs i have the optoin of micing the amp

i have another Q if i may..

The only 12AT7 that my supersonic uses its not working either....can i replace that particular preamp tube or i should replace the other five also? Which are 12AX7WC..i f you remember the supersonic Head has 5 12AX7WC and 1 12AT7 (in my case the one thats bad). in other words could i replace one or i have to replace the entire set?

Do i have to replace it with the exact one?

Hi there - When it comes to the pre-amp tube, you can simply change the faulty one. Since you have a head, the only 12AT7 pre-amp tube that is in the head is for the phase inverter. A 12AT7 is a lower gain tube and it is very important that you only replace it with another 12AT7 for that specific position.
Good luck !@

The super-sonic is an amizing amp, isn't it?
