So, I'm evaluating tube amps. I've had two in the past, and over time didn't like either one that much, so I sold them...I had a Mesa Subway Rocket and a Peavey Classic 30. They were ok...

I play mostly at home or at a friends house...no gigs. Mostly Blues, Classic Rock (Dead, Neil Young, Seger, etc...not much Zep or Sabbath type stuff)

I want tube sound. I've evaluated the following:

Blues Junior (Black, NOS Tweed)
VOX AC15's (all of them)
Orange Tiny Terror
Mesa 5:25

I'm leaning towards a BJ NOS or a Tiny Terror. I really would like both, but can't get both right now.

Any other suggestions, or comments on what I'm already considering?

I would ad an Ampeg J20 to the list. It's 20 watts, hand-wired, sounds great, no bells and whistles and around $800. The Tremolo kills. Oh, did I say it was hand-wired?

I'd check out the Pro junior. 15 watts, no frills. Great tone.

I don't think I've ever seen an Ampeg amp...I'd have to find out who sells them and check it out.

I do want to stick with a 12" speaker if I can, although the Mesa 5:25 sounded awesome with the 10"....and now it comes in a 12" too.

Oh, and on the superchamp XD...I tried it. I like the BJ a lot better.

Honestly, I was down to the VOX AC15 and BJ, until I played the Tiny Terror. That amp has some amazing tone.

I think you may have mentioned that...

BTW, the VOX Heritage Handwired is a nice amp as well...I just don't want to spend $1300+....I want a new guitar as well.

I have a Blues Jr. Awesome amp, I don`t think you`d be disappointed with one but go to the store and play a few different amps and see what you like better.

Yep,
Hand wired and around 800 bucks. Did I mention that too? :D

Just kidding. I tried one in New York and I was seriously surprised. I know it's a Fender forum. But I use amps as tools. I always have. I've had everything from Fenders to Sunns. No Marshall's though. Too many knobs for what I do and I don't need serious gain. But I have had Ampeg's in the past and they were great sounding and reliable too. I like the Egnater Rebel 20 too. I'm going to get rid of my HRDlx and get one of them. I'm not sure which one. I play part time in a couple of blues bands the HRDlx let me down too many times. I am on a first name basis with the repair guy and his wife. He's been servicing my amps for years and just scratched his head when he saw my HRdlx. He says he gets a lot of them with the same problems. I like the tone of the thing, what can I say?

Anyway try as many amps as you can!

Hello Daacrusher2001,

The blues jr. for me is where it's at.
But not for all, and frankly is quite similar to
the Peavey and Subway just a different voice.
Play many you'll find the right one that way.

Cheers.

These two amps have completely different tones. Play a few of them both and decide what will work better for you in the long run.

Yeah...I know the TT and BJ are completely different...I want one of each.

My main hesitation with the TT is price. It's pretty expensive, although not in the realm of Mesa. Also, I'm anxious to hear the VOX AC4TV. It's 4W and attenuates down to 1W and 1/2 or 1/4W. For me, that might provide some British sound.

I'm likely going to get a Blues Jr. and wait to hear the VOX.

I'm also wondering if I should pick up a used one and put a Swamp Thang in it rather than buy the NOS.

I'm in the same boat as you, daacrusher2001. I'm trying to decide between a Blues Jr. NOS or Vox AC15. I'm leaning towards the AC15 at this time...but that may change a couple more times as it has in the past! Decisions, decisions....
