Hey people,

The last two gigs I've done (a week ago, and tonight), my Blues Junior has decided to make a weird buzzing sound after 100 minutes or so of playing. It sounds pretty music like a G string held on static, but only does it like once or twice. It stops when I pick up the amp, but then starts up again, then stops and doesn't come back for a while! It doesn't affect me when practising - do you think it could be a tube going microphonic or something else?

Thanks very much for your time,

E.D.

Tube amps can pick up all kinds of signals, cell phone signals being one of them. If your cell phone is on your belt while you play take it off and put it away from the amp. My friend plays gigs and said when his cell phone rings it comes through the amp and everyone in the hall knows when he`s getting a call. The other thing I would check is to make sure the tubes are seated right. They could shift while transporting the amp and that could cause all kinds of headaches.

Ah okay thank you! I've had my phone on me actually the last two gigs as I didn't want to leave it on the table, and I'll check out the tubes. Thanks again, E.D.

I would turn the phone off while you're playing unless you're expecting a really important call from headquarters or something. The noise from the cell phone goes through computer speakers, any radio, all kinds of stuff. It make no difference if it's tube or solid state.
