Purchased this killer amp last month for the Trans-Impedance Power Attenuator function (plus it's an all-tube Fender!!) so I could get to that "magic tube place" at practice/bedroom volumes. Not sure if it's the amp or my cables or my axe, but something is cutting out intermittently after 2 hrs or so of medium-intense rocking. Didn't happen before this amp. I always buy quality cables but who knows? Gonna try some new cables but I'm just doing the process-of-elimination thing... Anyone heard about anything like this with these new amps?? Thanx; and otherwise this Amp Rocks!!!! Fender should definitely advertise it more... There are a lot of players like me out there with $ to spend for quality goods.

I almost took the $1,000 plunge when this amp first came out and now I'm glad I didn't. It suffers from two major problems:

1) The Hefty Price -- It had everything I wanted for recording including all of the popular jacks for connectability. The attenuator (more on that later) was the biggest attraction. I wanted classic tube tone at bedroom volume levels. Oddly, the combo includes overdrive and compression, but not Fender's classic vibrato (tremelo). If you can do without the OD and compressor, Peavey makes a similar amp, the Mini Colossal, for less than half the price. Oddly, in this unit you get tremelo but not reverb.

2) The Attenuator - As it gets hotter, there is a protection system in the amp that reduces the volume. This is particularly true at low volumes. It appears to be a design flaw and not a component failure.

For more insight, read some of the user reviews at Harmony Central and musiciansfriend.com. Almost everyone who has used the amp for more than a couple of weeks has run into the problem.
