Hi Guys, I'm sure there are answers to my question on different topics but here's the scoop...
I am a devoted Fender player and play mostly a CS Clapton which I love.
I then play through a 65 Re-Issue Twin Reverb (which I also love).
The problem is I have to lug the Twin around and twice a week up 4 flights of stairs to our rehersal studio. I also never get to turn it past 3 as we ain't a very loud band and like a nice clear / controlled sound on stage.
Our sound guy laughs at me and says using a Twin on 3 is like buying a Porsche and the driving it everywhere at 30 mph.
Any gigs we do the amp is always miced and in small bars so I am thinking of one of the new 65 Princeton Reverbs.
I played one once in a shop and it sounded great, but will it be up to gigging / rehersal. I like the bottom end of the twin. Will the Princeton be full of highs? I had a blues Jr once that I loved at medium vol, but died when played beside a drummer unmiced. Will the little Princeton's 15 watts do the same? I should also mention I can't afford both, so If I buy the Princeton, the Twin will have to go on FleaBay.
My back wont hold out any longer with the Twin!!
Help!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree that the twin might be a little overkill for what you mentioned.Have you considered the DRRI?It has a similar sound and only weighs around 40 lbs.It has nice bottom end too.I believe its only 22 watts so you should be able to open it up.

Thanks, yea I though about that when I was buying the Twin.
Something is just drawing me to a Princeton though.
I think that someone is Mr. Campilongo. Did you see his trio video on here???
God I'm a sucker for Fender's marketing!!

If you can mic it, it won't be a problem. For me, I think the Princeton's way over priced for a glorified practice amp. They market the recording aspect of the amp, but people record with Champs and Zappa even recorded with a $79 Pignose. You can record with just about anything. Otherwise I'd go with the DRRI.

Visited Guitar Center this evening primarily to score a copy of the new Frontline. I saw a PRRI on sale for $699.99 !!! That's $200 off. Who says GC doesn't have real sales. BTW - the sale ends tomorrow (Tuesday, 2/17).

I am not sure you will be happy with a Princeton Reverb after having the Twin Reverb.

They both sound differently. 6L6 and 6V6 amps sound different.

Yep, it will sound as difference as night and day. IMHO $700 is still a lot of coin for a 15 watt pcb mass produced amp. You could get an Ampeg J20 for a little more and have a hand wired amp, or build a Princeton clone for around the same money.

The PRRI or DRRI will do what you need and save your back in the process. Try them both.

I own a 65 Princeton RI. You will need to mic it if you want to play vs a drummer and you want clean tone. I think the Princeton gets plenty of bottom end (I keep the tone controls both on 5). To get crispy clean, the Princeton needs to stay no louder than 5 (given the guitar on 10).

Another note, I went to a "jam" with another guitarist using a Deluxe Reverb. We put both amps on 10 to compare and the volumes were about the same; the Deluxe was a bit louder, but not much.

How about the Blues Deluxe?

Make sure you have a good PA system if you get a Princeton. It is basically a practice/recording amp. You don't want to get caught underpowered.
