Comparatiively, how bright should a Hot Rod Deville 410 be on the clean channel?

I'm not sure I get what you mean, do you mean how different should it be when you press the bright button, or how bright should it be compared to different amps? or something else all together? I have one it's nice and bright especially with the bright switch, my personal favorite amp.

Like joe above, I'm not entirely sure of your question, but I'll take a stab at it. I bought a HRD 410 shortly after they came out, and play a 1986 AmStd Strat, 05 JimmieV, and an SG Custom throught it.
I expect you'll generally find the HRD 410 "brighter" sounding than about any tube amp with 12" speakers. Solid state amps can get pretty tinny, so if you're accustomed to SS tone, you may find the HRD darker, regardless of speaker size.
I can't tell much "brightness" difference between the clean and drive channels, either with or without the bright switch engaged.
A lot of the "brightness" is going to vary with your guitar, strings, playing style, tubes, room acoustics, etc. The "bottom line," I suppose, is that you ought to be able to get a good tone out of a HRD, and if you're not, there's something that needs fixing, because it's a fine amp.
There's a great line in one of Tom Wheeler's recent Fender books [I don't recall whether it's the Strat book or the more recent amp book], but someone is talking about how he thought that the bridge pickup on a Strat never sounded good until the first time he plugged into a fender tube amp, and I agree entirely.
Good luck.

I have had transistor and tube before my HRD 410 and nothing comes close with respect to clean and bright. This amp breathes better than any other that I've played.

Pickups are of course your first source of tone. My "darkest" guitar is an 86 Strat with H.H. I use input 2 and the bright switch plus 3 on the presence knob. My G&L ASAT ( tele ) is played in input 1 and bright off as it will hurt you with the highs.

I feel that the secret is the 4 x 10in cabinet that does a lot of the magic. Ten inch speakers have less mass than a 12" and can vibrate freer at higher frequencies. When you combine them, and through a low frequency at them, the whole cabinet moves as if it were a 24". This is my theory as to why this amp performs the way that it does.

The inputs have different sensitivities and impedance for different guitars that are out there. So your question about brightness can be a bit hard to address without more details.

Good luck with your quest

Cheers
