This is my first tube amp so i am unsure of myself. When trying to record using the preamp out, I am unable to get a decent signal into my DAW without having to crank the amp up loud. However, this is not conducive to living with neighbors. Would it hurt the amp if I unplug the speaker and then crank the amp up to get a decent preamp out line level?

Do not run the amp without the speaker hooked up, you will damage it.

Thank you for your responses. I went ahead and bought a Vibro Champ XD during lunch today. That should remedy my recording volume issue. Thanks again.

Don't record with the preamp out. You should mike your amp. I use an Audio-Technica AT3031 and place it about one foot in front of the amp (to get a little room sound), a bit off-center towards the upper left corner. It sounds great.

I suppose miking is best, but I record with my VCXD using the Line Out. I live in a condo so I can't make a lot of noise.

Hey, home recording, wanna keep the volume down? The POD 2.0 is FANfrickenTASTIC. Though you solved your issue i would recommend to anyone look into a pod 2.0. Not any of the other PODS
