Got a question...

I am on medical leave and waiting for surgery. Means I have a lot of time on my hands, and have been playing quite a bit (happily too... it is a real bright spot for me). Anyhoo, I will turn on my HRDeville 410 in the morning and play. If I am going to play in the afternoon also (after the pain subsides), should I just leave the amp turned on but in Standby, or should I shut it down completely, and then heat it up again in the afternoon for another session?

Your thoughts please...

Peace,

BD

If you're not going to play for an hour or more, I would turn it off. Some may say 30 minutes

I'd turn it off. I really don't think it will hurt the amp, but why drive up your electric bill. There's way too much thought given to standby switches. I have amps that don't even have them. I just turn them off and on. I don't really see any huge difference in tube wear. I've been using tube amps since 1964. :D

Just bought first tube amp and am making a case to keep it in the bedroom I share with my girlfriend. Does the cold affect the tubes in a negative way? She had me move my amp to the 3rd floor attic where it's not insulated and cold as balls, she doesn't like the amp sitting on the dresser I guess.

Use the standby switch if you need instant "On" when you flip the on switch. If you're not in a hurry, just turn it off.
I've been using tube amps since the 70s.

No. Tubes were used in the first space missions. Just let it get near room
temp before you start wailing on it.

Thanks man. She came home from work last night and I told her it had to be stored in a warmer room anyway. there are important times to utilize a little white lie...
