Man I'm jealous. How I'd love to have an effects loop in my Deluxe Reverb!

Congrats, I think this amp rocks!

I am about to buy one, but I've got a question for you: how goes the biasing? Is it just opening the amp on the backside and adjusting a pot like on the HRDx?

Hey All,

Picked up a Deluxe VM and was really stoked!. Played it in the local store and loved it. Here is my story......I opened the sealed carton to reveal a nice new amp...I love the smell of new amps in the morning. I turned it on and let it warm up for a few, plugged in my Les Paul, hit the standby and "WTF" whats that funky buzzing and hissing sound..? HMMMMMM was it the guitar cable, so I swapped it out and still had some noise, changed outlets, had noise, changed cable and went to Strat, and had some noise. Oh well I decided to mess around with it anyway. The plus side is I think the clean sounds better than my HRDV and the drive channel is more functional, even with the alien sound, but as the tubes got hotter the noise got worse.....bad tube right.? I looked into the amp and one tube was hot like the sun and the other was normal looking. I stared in amazement..and was like holy crap! that cant be good. Off went the amp, let it cool and pulled the cheap sovtek sucky tubes stamped by GT....come on Fender please use real tubes these things suck! anyway I put the tubes in different sockets and the same thing, one tube lit up like a nuclear bomb and the other was dim, but this time something really cool happened....SMOKE!!!! yeah some smoke. Again I was in holy crap mode and hit the power and yanked the plug... I called the store, I purchased the last one, so I need to wait! that sucks. Also who designed this thing....? the tubes are 3/16 of an inch from touching the speaker and the transformer is like 2 millimeters from touching the speaker...are you kidding me Fender..what if I want to put in a different speaker..? I guess it needs to be celestion spec or im SOL. Anyway blah blah blah my new Deluxe Vm is DEAD!!!! my first dead Fender amp in 25 years....! When I get my replacement I'll post again.

Sorry to hear that. You let the magic smoke out! Tubes shouldn't red plate. That's why I never buy the first run of anything. I hate being a beta tester.
I've had problems with both my HRDlx and G-Dec. I getting really disappointed in Fender amps lately. I haven't had a bad one in 40 years until now and that was through the supposedly horrible CBS period.

Good luck with the next one, I feel your pain.

Yeah it really sucks.. Fender actually brags about the amp being built in their Mexico plant....maybe it should'nt be. My HRDV is made in Mexico but I didnt have the dead tube problem. Though I did change all the tubes and rebiased the amp. They come really cold from the factory and besides the GT are crap anyway. I use TAD tubes with Tungsol preamp tubes and then bias....the amp sounds about a thousand times better. I cant understand why Fender just does'nt do it from the get go. Put better tubes in I'll pay a little extra for better tubes and a better set up. Also you cant adjust the bias like the HRD's just by pulling off the back cover, You need to pull the whole chasis from the cabinet and open it up and then you can adjust the bias at the bias adjusting screw like the HRD's.....more work but no big deal. I had CBS Fender equipment and never had a problem. I guess I just picked a bad one, but I expected a little better from Fender and at that price! I called the store they said two weeks for my replacement. just a little dig to Fender......I never had a Marshall fry out of the box!

My HRdlx took about three weeks of gigging to take a dump. I put JJ's in mine. The GT are really garbage. I would pay more for quality components period. There's a couple of people who had the grill fall off their vintage molested, oh I mean vintage modified series right out of the box. I never had a problem with any of my CBS amps either. I'm glad I still have them. If they keep building garbage, my CBS amps will probably take a big jump on the vintage market.

The problem with the GT's are they're not like they used to be. See if you can find actual specs on their tubes.......you cant find them. Even GT wont tell you....because they get tubes from the cheapest maker at the time and stamp GT on them to make you think your getting legendary GT tubes and your really not.... I always put in NOS tubes or something close to them in all my amps and adjust the bias if I can. The results are worth it. Oh well I hope Fender reads all the complaints about this stuff and makes a change. I also appreciate the 30% price increase! way to go. I played the road worn stuff but at $950 for a Mexican guitar!!!! WOW I'll buy a used Ebay American, hit it with a chain and rub sand paper on it and get the same look for a lot less Thank you very much! Though the neck was really nice  but it would be nicer at $700 OK I'm done crying about my brand new broken Deluxe Vm and picking on the Mexicans... I promise no more until the replacement I have to go and get a new toggle for my Mexican Tele because it no work so good anymore 8)

You're exactly right about GT tubes. They are just rebranded. I'm pissed too, not only is my HRDlx a piece of junk, but my G-Dec dumped a few weeks after I got it as a gift.

LOL the more I think about it the more pissed off I'm becoming! I just played the Marshall Vintage Modern combo....thats an awesome amp. It has real KT66 Tubes and a real Celestion speaker not the lower grade speaker like the Fender.........hhhhmmmmmm The reverb wasnt my favorite but thats why I own the holy grail right ! I'm also thinking Supersonic ....Now I'm debating about waiting for the replacement Deluxe VM or spend a few dollars more and get the Marshall or the Supersonic.....I would still have to change the tubes in the Supersonic though because of the GT soooooo maybe not worth it. I hope Fender reads this stuff because they are about to lose a sale...maybe! .

I'd skip the VM just because it's so new. Why be a beta tester? The Super Sonics are pretty nice and a lot more professional. Marshall tube amps are sweet. Outboard reverb is easy and usually sounds better anyway.
Right now I'm staying away the stuff made in China and Mexico. Too many quality and cheap component issues. Have you noticed there's a huge increase is posts that involve problems with the guitars and amps? I don't know if the price increase made people more picky, of if the FMIC is just cutting corners to save a few bucks.

yes I did notice the increase in posts.... and yes I do think its because of the 30% ,not for nothing but I just purchased a American Strat for $900 bucks in november of 08 and now they want $950 for MIM....they're crazy bro. I'm thinking Supersonic only because I need another Marshall like I need a hole in the head! I'm sort of looking for a grab and go gig amp anyway....but it pisses me off I need to do a tube swap as soon as I take it out of the box, know what I mean. I agree with you I'm staying away from that MIM MIC stuff. Besides it probably contains lead and is slowly killing us all!

I only have one Strat, it's an all original 72. Back when all you could but was a Strat no MIM, no 5 way switches, vno sigs, no hundred different versions of the same thing. Just a Strat made by American workers. I've had it since it was new. It's an amazing guitar. I have other guitars, my 63 Supro, 57 Dano, Ibanez Artcore but the whole new Fender amp and guitar thing is scaring me.

I would get the Super Sonic. It's a great sounding amp. I've rented them from time to time while out of town on gigs. Why not build a Mission 5e3 Tweed? I've been seriously thinking about it.
