ok, i put this question up some time ago, but never got a good answer, so ill try this one more time.

I have a fender stage DSP head, and i have two 8ohm 12" speakers, and i am trying to find a way to put both speakers into a cab, and drive them with the amp head.

Now, heres my problem. other then wiring the speakers independently, i know if i wire them together you will get 4 ohms, over all load for the cab. My head will support 4 ohms, but only if both of the 1/4 inch outs are connected. My question would be if i got a Y cable and put the two ends into the amp head and then the one to the cab, would this work or would i cook my head. can you run 4 ohms to a single 1/4"?

if this is not possible then i would love to know another way of wiring up a cab to fit the two 8ohm 12's and use them with my amp head. the head supports either 8 ohms on one 1/4" out, or 4 ohms with both plugged in. thanks for anyone whom can help!/Burnt

You can try online websites, make sure you have a right diagram since you can blow up your speakers if wired in the wrong way....
maybe this site can help you a little bit....

I can't find a schematic on that amp. Maybe an exact model number would help. Most likely the amp external speaker jacks are wired in parallel, or, you might have one that is dedicated to 4 ohms and one dedicated to 8. Without a schematic, it would be a guess. They can make and break several connections with one jack nowadays. A schematic of the amp would be your best bet.

Might have found the right schematic. If it is a Stage 100H, the jack next to the line out is your dedicated 4 ohm. Therefore, your two 8 ohm speakers in parallel can be plugged in here.

Yes, rjake is correct. Wire the speakers to get 4ohms and plug it in.

i have just learned from the manual that there is no dedicated 4ohm line. you need to remember, this isn't a stage 100H, it's a stage 100 DSP head. so back to the drawing board i guess. both 1/4" need to be plugged for 4ohm with this head.

so, maybe i just need to add two more speakers to this rig and make it easy with a half stack.

if anyone has any other ideas on how to get the set up i have originally spec'd out on top?

Hmmm. Well, two 8 ohm speakers will only get you 4 ohms or 16 ohms. You could run them at 16 ohms. Your amp would work fine, although it would yield more power with an 8 or 4 ohm load. Personally, I think that your amp would run 4 ohms with one jack just fine and if it were mine, I'd do it. But, it's not mine and I can't safely recommend you doing it. I'd hate for something to happen to your amp. Yes, getting 2 more 8 ohm speakers will make a total of 8 ohms possible. 4 speakers: 2 wired in series and 2 wired in parallel. You can buy a dual jack plate for the cab with one 4 ohm jack and one 8 ohm jack. That would be pretty cool - very professional.

The speaker jacks are wired in parallel. I can't see why hooking up 2 8ohms in parallel and hooking it in to 1 jack would make a difference even if it is a DSP.

I agree. If the jacks are wired in parallel, and surely they are, I say go for it.
What do you think about this: Plug in the new 4 ohm cab and see if it's alot louder than your internal speaker.
I think (and I'm no expert) that the problem with running an amplifier without enough resistance is that the transformer will overheat and it's insulation and shielding between the coils will melt and/or burn, causing the transformer to short out and die. If you play it quietly for a short time, even with the incorrect ohm load, it won't hurt anything. But first, let some of these other knowledgeable folks here agree with that. Again, I would hate for something to your amp.
