Hey all,

Just found these forums, really cool. I am back playing guitar after a 15 year break and having to re-learn everything which sucks. However I am enjoying it again and that is the main thing.

One of my favourite guitarists is David Gilmour and I really want to try and play his solos. I bought myself a new American Standard Strat and love it. I figured new guitar, might as well buy a new amp. So I threw away my Marshall MG series and bought a Hot Rod deluxe. It is the Ltd Edition one in orange and sounds awesome clean.

This therefore brings me to my question, does anyone have any good settings for this amp to get close to David's sound? I know it is as much him and his hands as anything so I am not expecting miracles! I am also using a Boss ME-50 multi effects pedal into the clean channel.

I know he uses Hi-Watt amps mostly but I also read he likes Fenders for smaller gigs.

Thanks in advance!

So you're after the holy grail PF  I've been after the same thing for the past few years, I'm still looking. I'm hoping you get some more replies, and ultimately, better advice than I can offer you. You might want to take a look here though...

I spent more money over the past 1 1/2 years trying to get that " SRV Sound " and couldn`t get it...know why ?...cause I can`t play like SRV. The main thing is that you have new and good gear to use. Concentrate on getting yourself back in shape, the Gilmore sound will come as you progress. But good luck in your quest and I hope someone here has the settings your looking for.
Welcome to the forum....

Ha ha, you BOTH talk sense :D

The AM Strat is very very nice, I love playing it, every time I walk past it I pick it up. I just hope it stays that way for a long time to come.

The hardest part of sounding like someone else is stealing their fingers :D

BTW ditto on the SRV/Gilmore things, spent lots of money and finally gave up.
Now just try to sound like myself

I guess I am just trying to get something close to his sound. I am working on Comfortably Numb at the moment and I just can't seem to get the right overdriven tone for it. That and the fact I seem to be 'catching' other strings when playing bends.......

I bought a DVD with a guy playing the whole song and his solos are awesome. Before he bends he seems to hit other strings to add 'meat' to the sound, anyone seen this before?

There are many informative video clips on Youtube, you may want to do a search there.
