Ok, I just got my deville and I let it get room temperature before turning the standby on. I let the standby stay on for 45 seconds. I had the impression that you don't play with the standby on, but when I turn the standby switch off the sound goes with it. So what should I do. :?

Btw I played it for a few seconds and it sounded amazing.

I am not sure if I understand you, as when the power switch is on (up) and the Standby is down (off), there should not be any sound. You should be able to play through the amp when both toggles are up (on).

Are you sure that you have the positions of the switches correct?

Ok, I have this figured out, so thanks. I turned off the amp to go eat and now it won't turn on... tubes aren't glowing, no lights. Should I be concerned?

*Edit*

Nvm I found a blown fuse. Going to get a replacement. Should this be happening on my first day with the amp?

Yep. Check the fuses first, household and amp. Then find the receipt for the warranty work.

So warranty work is definitely no doubt about it going to be needed? I thought it was due to me turning it on wrong. It says in the manual that it will only need work if it continually blows fuses, so I'll put in a new 3 amp fuse tomorrow and see what happens.

I don't think you should be blowing fuses. The procedure for powering up the amp is:

1) Power on switch
2) Wait at least 30 seconds
3) Power on standby

I always do the reverse when shutting down. Not sure why you had a blown fuse, but I highly recommend you power-up the tubes correctly.

That's right... if it is making a habit of blowing fuses, get it checked out.

It shouldn't be blowing fuses at all, no matter how you turn it on. I turned my Deville on both switches up simultaneously for years with no ill effects (til I was advised not to, in order to preserve valve life)

Ok I tried the new fuse and sure enough it blew right away, so I hauled it over to the local music store. Turns out I had a faulty tube (forgot to ask if it was amp or preamp) but they switched it out and this thing runs beautifully now. For the first time ever today I got to experience natural tube amp distortion, it was awesome. I turned it up and it broke into a crunch around 4 on the volume knob. It was really loud, but sooo worth it. So, thanks for all the help guys, this amp is now rockin'!
